Is there really a market for oven cleaning

Hi All

Im in 2 minds at the moment, with redundancy looming ( The longest redundancy notice ever 18 months).

Is there really a market for a stand alone oven cleaning business ?

Or do i go with my initial thought of carpet cleaning business ?

I would like to do both but money wont allow.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Oven cleaning's going to be cheaper to start up and keep running.

There is a market and as long as you work hard at it, there's no reason why you shouldn't do well... I am getting repeat customers and their friends booking me in now and I'm wondering whether or not I should take someone on so I can concentrate on carpet cleaning....

Do you use a dip tank ? if so
Gas or electric.

Ive been looking at training courses over the last few month. Will probably chat with Bravo20 when i get a finish date from work.  If he is still in the business.

For customers oven cleaning is a more affordable (lower cost) service than carpet cleaning so there is potential for more oven cleans than carpet cleans in a given period like a week or a month. The start up costs are lower but so is the return per job.

The start up costs for carpet cleaning are higher - I'd say a lot higher. Carpet cleaning takes time to develop - its a long term business because of the skills and experience and reputation it requires to be successful. The return per job is higher but so is the start up cost.

Some cleaners like to specialise, what do you want? If you've got 18 months to plan you've got an advantage - time is on your side at the moment, have a try out for a couple of days with both types of cleaning. Depending where you are, you might find someone on the forum willing for you to tag along and help out. Are you up to cleaning - its hard manual work, tiring and repetitive.

You can develop one service and add the other on as business grows. Make sure you budget for marketing; leaflets, web site, van livery, stationery, business cards, uniform, etc. Be realistic, get some training, avoidable mistakes can be very expensive.

I use gas Paul...

I can't compare as I have not used electric nor have I used steam cleaning for racks/shelves.

All I can say is, I have NEVER had a complaint with the oven cleaning.... EVER!!!! ;)

Hi! colin,


I'm running a small restaurant and most of the time I'm having a trouble when cleaning up my ovens... Can you suggest a product for oven cleaning?? any suggestions and advice would be highly appreciated.

I use "Carboff" which is excellent at £5 for 5 litres.... I paint it on and leave it for a good 30 minutes... I then use a window cleaner's scraper to get all the softened gunk off... I then spray with Brillo degreaser (20/1) and use a copper wire scourer with plenty of Astonish paste..... £1 a pot in pound shops, lasts about 4-6 jobs!!! :o

After wiping out all the gunk, using a fresh blade I get the final bits of burnt on carbon scraped off and finish off with a food grade silicone spray and buff to a shine.....

Vanquish is meant to be good too.....
