Limestone Floor clean
« on: October 24, 2010, 05:25:38 pm »
Hi Guys & Girls

I normally post on the window cleaning side but hope you can advise me with a limestone floor that I need to clean

Can I just clean it with a alkaline solution spayed from a sprayer bottle on a floor buffer machine or will it have to be scrubbed on hands n knees then wet vac'd up then buffed with a machine

I beleive the floor has been sealed at some stage in the past but not sure how long ago ( the floor is not that old tbh )

Cheers in advance
Chris

Apply the cleaning solution as per instructions, use rotary scrubber and agitate solution for around 10-15 mins then wet vac the floor. Then rinse the floor with clean water to remove all cleaner residue..Leave 12hrs then apply appropriate sealer to the limestone.

Thanks for the reply, is it always necsesary to apply a sealer afterwards will the rotary have removed the previous layer of sealer during the cleaning of it, even if the floor is only a few years old?

Every floor i clean i reseal...even floors i have laid a year ago that i go back to maintain i reseal. But its up to you if you feel confident applying a sealer. I'm doing one in 3 weeks 50sqm limestone kitchen floor, he had it cleaned not by me and to much sealer was applied. I have to strip the old sealer off to get the stone back to the original state then apply two coats of sealer, and its costing him a fair few quid to get it right. Give me a call if you want any advise about applying sealers etc.

Yes what bsherco is saying is true once cleaned you have to re seal
i use the 3 part cloth metod for sealing limestone

if you dont it can leave streaks
first cloth apply sealer then leave for no more then 5 mins use the second cloth to wipe access away then use third cloth to buff i seal about 1 sqm2 at a time that way you no were you are
