i havent signed up to this site long but i find there is a lot of people who dont contribute to the site.you get plenty of people viewing the questions but not many replies.if i have a answer to a question i try and contribute but i find many people tend to hit and run.you seem to see the same people answering peoples questions. it would just be nice  if different people contributed. After all this site is to share knowledge and help each other

Hi Tabitha, (this is my second post by the way) I was until now one of those people who viewed the questions for more than a year, and I have to admit it's great to find all your questions answered and all hurdles disappearing along the way one by one because of the wealth of knowledge on this forum! We are all on a similar path and it's great that we can rely on each other for help and support when needed so may I take this opportunity to thank everybody who contributed in the last year, you have unknowingly and selflessly helped us in one way or another... and I totally agree with you, Tabitha, what better way for the people who read these questions and benefited from the answers to show their gratitude than to contribute themselves and reply to some other questions... more posts from Newbies please, don't be shy!!!

I understand what you mean. But have you considered the following:

Some may not know the answer
Some may not want to tell you the answer because you are competition/rivals
Some people may not have the same amount of time to reply due to busy schedules.

I frequently inform others and take the time to share my knowledge with others even the competition that is fairly close to me.

I have helped many many on here in the General Cleaning section and have lent equipment, even been as far as a walk through on site visits to show newbies what to do and how to.

There has been occasions when the advice I have given has been correct and I have been informed / told No you can't do that, I would not do that by the person you are advising who knows nothing of the subject in question.

So how do you win?

And Tabitha, how have you contributed with only 8 posts... Most of them have been Questions.

I have only been a member for a short time and I try to advise when and where possible.  I don't really care if I help the competition.  Forums are all about advice and help.  I know when I first started I found Forum advice very valuable.  Now being a member of several forums I offer help and advice when I can.  We also run an E Bay and Amazon store and we offer advice and help on there as well, in fact we receive over 30 questions a week on products and advice prior to purchase.

Some give, some take. Most just watch which is sad really because all they have to do is ask because on this forum even if it really is a stupid question most people are polite in their response. (QUALIFIER! -always do a simple search - faqs etc 'cos most times there is a already a thread there and things don't change that quickly!)

What always amazes me is how few people take up the offers of free training sessions, shadow days and site visits to see office systems, and stuff particularly when they are freebies and being offered by owner operators who don't have an axe to grind.

Just like customers, there's nothing stranger than folks :-)
