doh! my clx is broke!!!
« on: October 07, 2010, 12:44:01 pm »
well its not really broke more just out of action for a few days...

only had it a month, the glues gone on two of the clamps, i rang gardiners and fair play to them - very understanding and helpful.

sending out the glue to sort.

poles just spins round at the mo  :'( :'(

still think its one of the best poles around at the mo and it works really well as a 3 in 1 pole 2nd, 1st and ground floor work ...

Not sure how you can call it 'one of the best poles around' when after a months use, the clamps have fallen off ???

maybe Gardiners should get it right first before they start selling it.

its only the case that some glue hasnt done its job - nothing too major.

the pole is fine and when sorted it will be a great pole again.

im guessing it was made with not enough glue put in place ....

The glue is a twin tube araldite/epoxy thingummy which you can get from any hardware store. Every six months or so I get "a spinner" and fix it with gaffer tape until I get home and then glue it.

Get a handful of clamp levers sent out too because they can snap if caught on gutters and conny roofs etc. A few quid well spent.

Personally i would like to see Gardiners send out a refurb pack (Glue and Levers with every pole - even if they add a fiver to the price. Saves time.

well i snapped the base section(no 5)clamp the other day and gardiners sent out the glue and clamp free of charge and ive glued the new one back on.excellent service from them yet again!

ive been using my "emergency" fibre glass 20ft pole the last 2 days! ::) ::)ill be glad to get back to the much more user friendly clx! :D :D

good point gold!i also think they should sell the poles with extra clamps and glue!just the nature of wfp i suppose!

Good idea Gold. I have a supermax and I think every clamp has come loose. Think Gardiners really need to look into that problem as it happens alot. Also, it has happened with my CL-X as well. Gardiners were very good and sent out glue the first time it happened but it would be better if it didnt happen in the first place!  This thread has just reminded me..I need to go out and glue section 3 clamp so its ready for tomorrow!

Wrap some tape round it to keep you working 'till the glue arrives?

Had gaffer tape on most of my sections for about 6 months now...it does the trick

I now have 3 new clamp sections so I'll glue them on properly... ;D

What is it about gardiners? When they sell you a pole, do they somehow manage to put you in a trance, so that when something breaks or falls off after a few weeks you just smile and praise them for being so professional in sending out replacement clamps and tubes of glue ??? ???

If the same thing happened when you bought a brand new car and bits fell off after a few weeks, would you still say how wonderful it is and its the best car you've ever owned??

No I haven't. But that's neither here nor there. The point I was making is that guys spend good money on a new pole and when bits fall off or whatever after only using it for a month, they seem to accept that it's ok.

It's not acceptable to sell goods that knowingly have faults.

You should try one, then you might see why many are so forgiving of minor problems, of which happen with many poles & you'll be able to appreciate first hand just what Gardiners have done for our industry! ;)

You'll also discover what you've been missing! I'm still using my MKI SLX daily, it's nearly 3 years old now. ;)

Every pole I have owned over the last six years, I have had to glue the clamps back onto the sections.

Have one of them Hydra poles from Brodex now, 3 weeks old and all the clamps have had to be re-glued, just use some super glue and carry on, it is part of the job to me now, although it shouldn't really happen.

Seems I can manage to stick them back on and they stay stuck when I do it, so why can't the pole suppliers?

As fgor you lot breaking clamps and stuff, how?

I have never broken a clamp or pole, the only poles I have broken have been glass fibre ones that have actually worn through then snapped, but after a very reasonable amount of time and use.

So if I go out and buy a top of the range van, the fact that the wheels fall off periodically, I should be grateful ??? ??? ???

i have had a few clamps come loose on me, what i noticed, is the pole was still original smooth, anything glued should be keyed, roughed with sandpaper, then the glue and clamp fixed, simple solution might help this frequent problem,
