online payment help
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:45:26 pm »
I have had trouble with the postal service regarding missing payments recently and have been considering offering online payment to my customers for some time now . i would be interested in hearing from anyone currently offering this service . How expensive is it , what company etc ,etc .

I'm surprised at you asking this.Perhaps i'm miss reading.

Open a business account. It will have a sort code and an account number, customers pay into this.It doesn't cost anything.

There are a couple of wrinkes and advantages to this, but i'm guessing this might not be what you meant to ask.

I offer paypal, cost works out about 60p for a payment of £12-£15, I think you also pay to transfer small amounts to your bank account.  Much better to try to get them to pay direct to your bank, no cost and money is in your account immediately.

I'm with Slumpbuster on this one. Just give them your bank details and let them pay online.
The pen is mightier than the sword (and a lot easier to write with!)

All but 6 of my customers pay via internet banking here in Holland...

Every time they are cleaned they get a card with my bank details on and they pay...

I ask that each customer puts their postcode+house number as a reference....this seems to work

People who would be late payers will continue to be late payers whatever the method.

I have been using this method for payments since I started in Oct 2006...no problems with it.

Cheers

I'm reluctant to open a business account because of the charges. I know some offer free banking for a certain time but what about after that period? I dont want to pay for banking and i don't want to keep switching banks either. I've been using my own Barclays current account as a business account for the past 18 years. Wish there was a way round it because although I have a company name, my customers write a cheque to me personally which doesn't seem as professional.

Also, with online bank transfers, do you just keep checking your account each night to see who's paid?

i Have been looking at companies like Nochex and had not considered slumpbusters suggestion . sometimes i cant see the wood for the trees. I am guessing it would not even need to be a business account.

I have had a business account with Alliance & Leicester for over 3 years, no charges yet and I even get paid a little (very little) interest.

I just check once a week or so (depending how the cash flow is looking) and then update George

I've only got one customer, and that is an advertising company. when they first ask me to do the windows they said they would pay me directly into my account. so I gave them the relevent info, and hey presto, every month, in it goes (on line). They hold my details in their computer, I don't put anything on my bill. And no bank charges!!
