my bank wouldnt tell me what the gambling website was. funny thing is , when i received the new card they asked me if i wanted the ppi. errr no thanks dont need it since you are scrutinising everything i buy lol. the also said thats the way they take money. a couple of small purchaes to test the water , then a big hit.

Throwing no stones nor making any accusations but I was stuck one day with my Maestro card which Wintecs do not take for purchases anymore. I rang the wife who has a visa card and she made the purchase for me over the phone.

That was end of August. 20th September two O2 prepaids go though that account which had nothing to do with us. Rang First Direct straight away who were great and refunded straight away. They said these smaller withdrawals were often a prelude to a big whammy. They also said there wee other transactions on their way through that hadn't appeared on our statement yet which they also voided.

Could just be a coincedence though as that visa card smokes sometimes it is used so much.

might have to give wintecs a bell tomoz  seems a bit of a coincedence, so many are getting cloned,   my other card takes a battering and if any card might get cloned thought it might of been that one,  but nothing

Hi guys this is interesting, just ordered some equipment off wintec webshop on monday afternoon, never used them before, then yesterday morning(tue) gets a call off HSBC fraud dept saying a attempted purchase was flagged up for an American phone company AT+T for $1(63p), so the bank have cancelled the card and are issuing me with another. Such a small amount, I wonder if they try with a little first just to see if they can get away with it and then move on to bigger amounts? Any way not wanting to point the finger at Wintec but it is very curious as I have made hundreds of internet purchases and its never happened before????

That is what they generally do first I believe.

Sounds to me like someone at wintecs is asking for trouble, lets face it in all honesty IF you were to do something like this wouldnt you leave it a while between attempts?

might have to give wintecs a bell tomoz  seems a bit of a coincedence, so many are getting cloned,   my other card takes a battering and if any card might get cloned thought it might of been that one,  but nothing

Let us know what happens Monkey.

i think a lot just get the cards and use them as quickly as possible, in case they get stopped,  going to give wintecs a bell later   just seems funny that a lot of people are having proplems after buying from wintecs  maybe there web site has been hacked,  or it just be one big coincedence,

I wonder if it would be best to speak to your credit card fraud dept first.

Whatever you do, dont speak to the first bod you get on the phone at Wintecs.

spoke to a copper last nite, got told just report it to bank, have already done that, but they wont do any thing till the money goes out of the bank as at moment it is still pending, but when it goes out they will refund it and class it as fraud

Maybe the banks fraud depts will look at earlier transactions to see where the cards may have been compromised, put two and two together and investigate wintecs? Seems too be a few on here, maybe the banks have seen a lot more. My transaction was through the webshop, were anybodys done over the phone?
perhaps its just the website thats been hacked?  Bob.
