I've got a Shurflo 100psi pump connected to a pressure switch and flow controller.
Lately i've been getting a problem where after doing a couple of windows the water flow drops off and stops. There are 2 wires spade connected into the pressure switch and i've found that they don't appear to be loose. However for some reason i've found that by removing the top wire and replacing it again (sometimes have to do this 2 or 3 times) the pump seems to kick back into life.
This is bugging me now because it seems intermittent.
Any advice appreciated.
Does it sound like I need a new pressure switch?

Disconnect the wires from the pressure switch and bypass it. You probably don't need a pressure switch at all. The controller should sense when the pump is labouring by the voltage change.

some controllers only reduce the motor speed and don't have a pressure cut off facility. I would imagine that the pressure switch is still needed in that situation. This is why I have a varistream as it does both and so does away with the pressure switch altogether.

Yes thats what im thinking. I use a Polarbrite analogue flow controller so im not sure its got a pressure sensing facility so might need the pressure switch.
Im actually considering just using the pump with an on/off switch, doing away with the flow controller and adding a waterflow bypass to the tank.
At first I was wary of doing this as the pump will be constantly running until switched off but i've just read somewhere that when using a pressure switch with the shurflo it draws twice as much current from the battery to start the pump as it does when its actually running.
So it probably wouldnt use any more juice from the battery as it would with the pressure switch cycling the pump on and off.
I use a high flow anyway with a flow control valve on the pole hose to stop water flow between windows so this might be the option i'll go with.

replace the pressure switch, they are about £1.50 from maplins. just take the 3 screws of the top of the pressure switch to remove. just be careful when removing the top not to loose the spring. I have done 3 now only takes a few minutes.

Have you got the part number for the Maplins switch mate, so I know which one to get?
