Had my pole just over a month now but this week my hands are really black from holding pole. Is there anything other than wearing gloves that I do to stop this. It takes days to get dirt out.

same here, why does this happen? my unger glass fiber pole has never had this effect on me!

I've just started using barrier cream because I dont want gloves on yet. Seems to help a bit. I don't mind gloves in the winter.
I find my hands get blacker on the wet days or when the slx pole is wet.

My solution is to give the pole a quick wash every evening.  Sections apart, run pure water down the outside and inside of every section.

I know I shouldn't have to do it, but there's no point in my shining about it.  It stops the problem in its tracks and I suspect will make the pole last longer (less grit to wear the sections).  I do it while the van is filling up.

Regular washing out will not only make the pole last much longer, but will also reduce the black residue from these poles. The reason that the poles give out black dust in use is due to the fact that they pure carbon fibre poles. Fibre Glass pole will not produce black dust in use, unless they have been made with black resin - which we do not think many are. All poles with a carbon content will, at some point, produce carbon dust as they wear. This residue is produced when small grit/sand particles abrade the inner/outer surface of the poles as they telescope.

The easiest way of controlling this is to wear gloves whilst working. We have worked with carbon fibre poles now for about 9 years and have always worked with some kind of hand protection as a matter of course; the benefit of this is that we never get 'black' hands. Wearing gloves of some sort should actually form part of a good method and H&S statement for any contractor as it also protects against contaminants that the hose picks up. When the weather is not cold we recommend wearing a pair of disposable Nitrile gloves (£6-7 per 100 on eBay), it also means that you can peel them off and eat lunch or conduct business with clients with completely clean and hygienic hands.

When my hands start getting black from my slx pole i take it to pieces wash it out, dry it then spray it with clear laquer from a spray can when dry spray with cheap furniture polish and put back together this lasts about a month then i repeat.

yes you are right i do have a problem with people who charge silly amount for there stuff,also i have problem with people who have one sided views and no nothing about anything else

not at all, i looked, i tried, i didn't like, i didn't buy. Your entitled to your opinion I'm entitled to mine. I'm very comfortable with all my equipment including none ionics.
