With the winter months approaching, do gloves really make a difference? Last winter, my first, I managed without any gloves on most cold days. On the days I used gloves I found them to be very restrictive.
Question. Would I be better off investing in "proper"neoprene ones, or what other alternatives are there.

I use fingerless boat gloves but they tend to get to wet, will be trying fingerless sub-aqua glove this year.

Unger do a very good pair of neoprene gloves,your hands tend to get a bit sweaty but they will always be warm and dry,and for around £20 cant be bad.

I was always against wearing full gloves. (Used fingerless woolen most times) Same thought about being restrictive

Then I got some sense. I would rather have dry warm hands with slightly less feel than cold wet numb ones.

Usually I find as well that most cold days you only need to wear them for an hour or so then its warm enough to take them off

OK listen up guys! The definitive answer on gloves.

Fingerless cycling gloves are good 'til end of October. Then get those polythene gloves like wot you get at the diesel pump at the filling station. Put them on and then put Unger gloves on top. By Feb the Ungers will be full of holes but the polythene ones underneath will carry you through to April when you can use the fingerless cycling gloves again.

This applies whether you are wfp or trad.

where i work in sunny cornwall the gloves come out fot no more than 3-4 days .
last year there was only 3 days i had frost on my windscreen.

In the main I use them Orange gripper gloves,I carry about 12 pairs so that I can change them when wet, I find they are best for WFP

1) keeps your hands from getting cut from bits of grit on the hose(when winding back onto reel)
2) gives you a good grip on a wet pole (saves tiring your hands)

And save those neop thingy gloves for really cold mornings.

I always wear gloves when cleaning windows. 

I wear a pair of cotton gloves(garden;something washable and comfortable;) and a pair of neoprene over them.

You can remove the liners and wash them; no stinky  sweaty smell!

And when it gets colder; warmer liners. When you get used to working while wearing gloves it is easy.

Will keep your hands clean; nice and Warm!  Dirty nails or hands is  a real turn off to women.

YES absolutely brilliant ,just make sure you dont order too small ,bigger is better or they will cramp your hands up

Generally yes unless you're up to your arms in water but the good thing about neopreme is that if water gets in - they're still warm.

It's the same stuff that a wet suit is made from.

I use unger ones. A bit restrictive but ok.

I just use the cheap washing up gloves from Tesco. I've had all the other expensive w/c gloves and I just cant wear them. Its already been mentioned that you only need them for a few hours 1st thing and then just take them off.
