Anyone use these type of down draft fans and how good are they in comparison to conventional fans?
Any particular brand?

I have one, an Axial F6... It sits at the back of the garage gathering dust... It is very good though, but it is too heavy and cumbersome for a weakling like me :D

I have the one from Amtec, it's ok but not as powerful as the snail. The good thing is they don't blow everything all over the place, so they are safer.

Got one and like Colin find it too heavy and cumbersome for domestic use at least, sits in the garage and comes out for large open areas sometimes.

Glad you mentioned the weight, I took one up a near vertical staircase last week to an attic room, thought it was just me getting old  :-[

I've used a snail a few times before but soon sold it as it used to make a racket!! plus, it blew crap all over the place!

Now that was a few years ago, and wanting to try again but with a down draft. So are they really that good at drying out carpets? i.e. 15 minutes for a typical lounge carpet? ok, i'm sure this is just marketing talk, but if it dried it out completely in 30 minutes OR well under an hour i'd be really happy :)

Gary?? Derek?? Colin?? Paul??  ;D

I'm not impressed by them to be honest and I think the air flow that comes out the side is minimal, I use driers on every job and always have done.

One thing they have taught me is......even the cleanest, house proud women don't dust behind the radiators.

I found them to be better than the snail which I had before.
Dry in 15 minutes - no.
But certainly 30-60 mins, not that I'd leave it that long in a room. Just so awkward in small spaces. Better suited for large open areas IMO.

I find it better than the snail type.
Agree with Paul, 30-60 minutes (not 15)
They are bulky, rather than heavy. Take up a lot of van space.
Keep your eyes peeled for people selling them on 2nd hand, that's how I acquired mine.
If there isn't enough time to do the job right,  how do we find the time to go back and do it again when the customer is not happy ?   Do it right the 1st Time.
