[Cleaner Windows]

Been looking for a new PDA to use which has a backlit screen and is compatible with windows vista 32bit. I dropped my palmv on the concrete the other day and smashed its screen (dont buy a palmv, the screen sync goes after only a while of using!).
So Im wondering what you would suggest for the compatibility and backlit screen? (to make it easy to see at night, now the nights are getting in).
I did have an old m130 that had a bl screen but they arent compatible shame because you can pick them up for about £4 on ebay

What's it got to be compatible with ? If it's George, then the M130 will work just fine.
Oops, just remembered there is sync issues with Vista.

yeah I use pocket george but I meant the compatibility with vista 32bit mate, as you say the m130 wont work with it as there are some sort of compat issues with them...

Just to let you guys know that Palm is now owned by HP (Hewlett Packard). Purchasing any of the original Palm equipment will be detrimental to you. HP use to use Microsoft Mobile OS on most of their PDA's. Now they have purchased Palm, which is Linux based they will be putting it on all their devices, I can tell you that it wont run any of the old Palm applications at all. It really would be wise to have one of the latest Smartphones or PDA's or new Palm devices and they will synchronize with any of the windows flavoured operating systems. You can pick up a really decent  Smartphone or PDA or Palm device for about 20/30 quid a month from any of the Mobile Network Operators. Unfortunately, George's mobile software wont work on any of these these new device's, unless it is upgraded to do so. I know this because I have developed for the Palm OS for a good number of years and was also a member of the Palm Developers Network. Like it or not you/we all have to upgrade to these new devices just to ensure compatibility between hardware and software. So this means you may have to look for new software to ensure that your data is kept up to date.

The reason being that your data will be incompatible with any new device and you will have to enter it all manually. If you only have a few customers, thats OK, but if you have hundreds or thousands, I would seriously suggest you upgrade asap.

The other software companies have a way of collecting info from george and putting it on their program. If you buy a new round organiser you will see. You can even trial them and have the data transfered to the new software, its no problem. George will either adapt or we change software, it's not going to cause Armageddon!

yes you are mate, as I said George doesnt run on new devices, so what you gonna do keep using old pda's until you cant find any more and then what you gonna do when george no longer runs on all the new 64 bit computers.  Well you stick with your old software and your old computer and your old pda and then you will be wondering why every body has much better multifunctional equipment which can do things much faster, like utilising the internet and the iphone and the hundred other things they do.

Oh and good luck with your second hand equipment, where the battery has most likely been hammered as well as the screen and home buttons. And no I am not selling any thing.

Im so shocked that a person is replying to this forum with 25 years of programming and trying to offer help and advice, who is an original member of the palm programming - and you still get people taking the pee, Im completely shocked. 

Youve got somebody with 25 years experience and you STILL arguing and not taking advice..

Were not out to sell, but if you have a question were happy to answer it, because its OUR field  We spent a very very very long time in comms.  Nobody is selling anything at all but might be more knowledgeable.  Were onlly trying to offer solutions, it gets very tiresome when we really know what were doing

We are window cleaners not tech nerds. Most prob still use pen and paper or excel. If palm ang george stop working there will be another solution, but I doubt it's on the top of any ones must do list.

My problem is with the agression shown, the guy asked which pda would work, there are hundreds of second hand ones out there, which one was his question.

I use a T3 and have two old spares that can be used when this one fails. In a couple of years something else will turn up no doubt, but trust me, right now it's not a big deal. We got past the millenium without the Computer world falling apart.
