Just cleaned moss of my garage roof. Scraped it first then jeted it. Looks good but as messy as hell.
OK, now for the house roof! I'm not going on that!
Question will something like path clear, if I sprayed it on from my pole, would it work???

it might kill the moss  what about a weed killer, but depending on the angle of the roof, it wont fall off,   u could spray it on and try and brush it off with a old brush, but to he honest i think it will take u all day

years ago,i once made up a rake to fit onto a very long steel pole,made from 3/4" pipe,i "borrowed "this from a nearby engineering works  and completely dragged all the moss off a roof that way . from the ground .

i think a lot depends on the roof material. my neighbour had a slightly different tile and him and his brother had to get the moss off piece by piece and it took a weekend

If you want to kill moss on your roof, what you need is coal soot.  Ask a chimney sweep for a bucketful and sprinkle it over the roof.  It'll kill every morsel of moss on there.  Once its roots are dead, it'll roll off the roof (assuming it's pitched) and you can clean out the gutters.  I'd put cages over the downpipes while it all dies off if I were you.

vin is right mate.....make sure you cover them downpipes man,or it will end up a expensive job
We cover all down pipes etc when cleaning tiled roof's as the crap could easly end up clogging drainage system .......be careful fella

A good way to protect downpipes is to stuff a plastic pot scourer on top if the down pipe holes and remove when it is blocking up to clean.

You need Hydrochloric acid, this will kill the moss, we use it loads.

I've got flat concrete tiles. Don,t fancy using acid, I think I will try a weed killer first, can't remember the name off hand but you mix it with water and it's a white granular substance.
Are there many roofs with moss, is there a business opertuinity here? When its raining?
There must be an easyer way.

Thats sodium chlorate which is now banned and will not touch moss any way.

Yes a business op that lots of companys including us tap into, we have a large port folio of apartments of which we have to de-moss roofs on.

Just because a weed or moss is dead doesnt mean it'll fall off the roof. The roots will still act like anchors. Try pulling a dead plant out the ground, there is still resistance, the roots will still hold the dead plant in place.

The thing about the roots: If it's your own roof and you're not in a rush, then provided you use something that really kills it off (soot or one of the products on the site above) then in time it does let go.  I know from experience - I treated a driveway thick with moss in autumn with the intention of scraping the moss away the next spring.  It simply wasn't there and had all, between decomposing and being rained on, disappeared.  So if you're not in a terrible rush, you can do it the lazy way.  If you're in a hurry, you'll just have to get down to the job.
