Vivaro, traffic and the other one !
« on: September 06, 2010, 07:07:45 pm »
I have a transit van i bought from Enterprise via the auction, they have now changed over to the vivaros....

Just wondered, as at the time of buying the transit , everone was telling me to steer clear of vivaros , as the gearbox is iffy ... now the place i bought the transit  from ....have them !!.

Now i see Europe car and van rentals have a huge fleet of them,

so they cant be all that bad can they ? ...

or have they sorted the problems now.?

There is no problem with the new 6 speed gearbox. The 5 speeds older than 56 plate have had many problems though.

I believe it's pre 55/06 where the gearbox probs lie.  It's a problem because a cable that enters the gearbox from underneath lets water into the box and corrodes a bearing that has something to do with gear selection.  You would think they could have worked that one out before sticking thousands of them on the road.  My first gearbox (Trafic) went at 39,000 - just inside the 3 year warranty.  The second one has now done 48,000 and I really could do with it doing quite a few thousand more yet.  If I can get another couple of years out of it, I would probably use the £3k towards the next van and just scrap this one if the gearbox went.

I have an 03 Vivaro 1.9 DI

New clutch and gear box last year cost £1600

at 79,000 miles

Think I need a new clutch 15 months on 93,000 miles ???

I had a 05 primastar 80k the diesel pump went on it.
It is meant to put shards of metal in the diesel system, so Nissan wanted to change fuel lines, injectors, rail, pump, cambelt, clean the tank £3500 + vat.
If you look on the Internet it's a common problem on these vans. I wouldn't buy another.

My next vans going to be a VW Transporter or Toyota Hiace.

I've heard too many expensive stories about the Vivaro, Primastar etc... And Transits just rust!
