Big quote Tosh

Well, any joy with that big one Tosh?

I went to quote a barn conversion yesterday, don't really want it, just got one of those feelings they're gonna be demanding.  They've already been quoted £35 quid.
Said they were getting other prices.  I said about £50 monthly.
They rang this morning, it's mine!!  Given me the security code, and told me where to find the key to the swimming pool area, and hot pool!
You never can tell.

PJ,

Good on you for getting the job.

As for our quote, it's on hold at the minute.  The person who makes the decision is on holiday in Spain.

Not only that we need to know the frequency.  It's a big complex, with many different areas, so I'm guessing it'll not be a straightforward inside and out each month.

Once we know that, we can formulate our quote and send it to them, then wait to hear, 'How Much???'.

Tom is the 'main man' on this job; he was asked to quote.  So I'm waiting to hear from him.

My only previous big job was a Hilton Hotel and I did the following:

Pulblic areas (reception, swimming pool, gym, bar, restaraunt and conference rooms) - every month.

Exterior room windows - Every two months.

Interior room windows - Every three months.

I bet this place wants similar.

'High Impact - Low Cost' they call it!!!

Thanks Tosh

hope you get a result too.  True to say though, often going for the big fish ends up wearing you out and you don't make a catch anyway.
Another problem is putting all your eggs in one basket.
A few years ago when Tesco first really got moving on their out of town superstores, I landed a contract to do one near me.  6 mornings a week inside and out, didn't care when I did them, then they gave me another.  Admittedly I was starting at about 5.30am 6 days a week-but I was earning £200 a week by 8am!
That's going back about 10 years.  Suddenly they put an area guy in who studies all the costs..bang!!  I'm finished 1 week's notice.  They get a cleaner on minimum wage to give them a wipe when they get bad.
It was a big loss at first.  Taught me a lesson, spread the load if you can.

PJ,

I've heard a few other stories, some on here, about lads who take on big contracts, then lose them; getting hit financially hard.

Closer to home, I know someone who did 160 houses in a local married quarter area and when the battalion was posted to Ireland; he lost the lot in a short period of time.

I do quite a few of them there now, but will never take on more than two days worth of work, because this lot is posted to Blackpool in the not too distant future.

i knew the window cleaner in tidworth, and he had all his eggs in 1 basket so to speak, the guy was ok, as its fairly big and allways have a fair number of occupied homes (think it was 85%)

Well I did it this morning, she's also got a spanking new ferrari in the garage!!
It started pouring with rain about 20 minutes into the job, did it in just about 2 hours, said "sorry about the rain", she gave me the cash and said "oh well, it happens, see you in 4 weeks"!!  I guess you never can tell
