New and In New Zealand any Advice
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:09:55 am »
Hi all,

I'm just setting up a new round in New Zealand.

I'm going to be doing a trad. round and have bought:
Pulex Brass 350mm channel, 250mm Channel 2 brass handles, rubbers and clips.
MicroFiber woolly, T-Bar, 2m of Scrim and a bucket.
Most buildings in the area I'm planing to work are bungalows so I'm not getting a ladder as yet although I do plan to get a small step you use.

I've produced some flyers and will dropping them over the next couple of weeks and then I'll be following that with door knocking a week later.

I work full time in the adventure tourism industry so I was planning to work from 630am until 945, 7 days a week. In your experience would people want their windows done this early. Also if we don't have bookings I can be away from work as long as I can return within 30 mins.

I'm after all and any advice I can get, and if anyone knows of anyone doing windows over here would they be willing to discuss the trade with me.

Can anyone give advice on cleaning windows inside the home, I seem to have lots of water on my woolie and can only imagine this would make a mess indoors. Does anyone wring out the woolly first and if so how?

I'm planing on just using fairy liquid to clean with, is this a good idea or should I be adding anomia to it or using a specialized product?

I do also plan to do 2 and 3 level homes but think I will use a hose and pole system further down the line.

Last question is: How do you estimate for a commercial property like McDonnalds? Do you charge per large pane of glass or on a hourly rate?

Thanks for any and all advice,

Lee

looks like no one wants to play with you M8 as u not had a reply  :)

flyers and knocking ok but personally now i just knock

if you cleaned windows at 6..30am in the uk you would be sacked by the customers ... cant see NZ being any different.

I dont use fairy but squegee off from ettoire. leaves a nicer shine and less detailing required so saves me time.

Amonia ... not heard that one before but some people do add a little natural ammonia so i have heard  ;D

Mcdonalds all sewn up over here so personally i would concentrate on the residential customers first then look into commercials after a few years.

Cheers Ian101.

Did a flyer drop last week, following that up with a door knock this week.

HAve been told looking through peoples windows at 630 am might be a bit off putting.

How early do people start? I guess not everyone is and early riser.

Cheers for the advice

9am if residential and about 8am if a commercial but only have 2 commercials at the moment so guys with lots of commercials proably start a lot lot earlier. posting in this section will give only a few replies as just the way it is get over to the general section of the window cleaning part and introduce yourself and post there m8
