640 metres of gutter cleaning
« on: August 05, 2010, 10:52:58 pm »
I've been asked to submit a quote for cleaning gutters alongside a quote for the windows.
I've got an idea for the window cleaning but there are also 640 metres of gutters to quote and i'm unsure?
They need clearing out and will only need clearing in certain places.
This is a pic. There is 640 metres of it. I will be doing it off ladders and using a drainage rod. There are 37 downpipes and i guestimate it will take about 60 ladder climbs. This is for clearing the gutters and not cleaning them. I think it will take me (and another footing my ladder) Maybe 1 day.

go on time mate, do the gutters first as you may have crap dropping onto the windows, also how are you doing them ladder or vac? just give them your day rates and add a little on top for safety.

Clee, £1500 !!!! bloody hell mate  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for reply. I was thinking along those lines if it was for clearning and cleaning etc. But they aren't going have debris all the way along. There are a few areas tht have debris from the trees etc but nothing too much.
What i'm wondering is do i price this one up on how long i reckon it will take?
Or do i put in a price per metre?
I met the gardeners when i was there and as most of it is unoccupied there is very little ground rent coming in.
I think price per metre will not get me the job.

mark i would hire a pressue washer and lance as this would make the job so much easier,   use a big scoop and then blast it out, woudl take a day liek that   i think on ladders it might take you 2 days

i think you will be lucky if you get the job for more than £800

mark, tops that total job is going to take you 2 days even if you ladder all the gutters, its up to you if you want the work or not but if you price it up at anything over £450 i think you'll be lucky to get it. all in my opinion, id be going in lower than that by the way

if that job was in cornwall i think you would be talking 300 cash as a one off  and then what ever the windows are,  but prices are cheap down here

also be very wary about who you talk to about your prices, your 'friendly ' gardener will all of a sudden be able to do gutters if he hears you are going to charge ££££££ to clean them

Yes what you are saying makes sense. I'm thinking along the same lines.
I want the window cleaning and could tolerate a lower quote than if it was just a gutter clean. The gutters wouldn't need doing much.

well tellthem your willing to do the gutters for less if they go on your wc books as a regular, so for arguments sake tell them normal gutter price would be £200 but if they take up your regular clean then it drpos to £150, money quoted is for illustration purpoeses only  ;D an does not include wc ;D

Jeez, some of the prices going around are silly, £300 for 640 metres of guttering?
I would be using a guttervac and I would be wanting atleast £500 if not £650 for the gutters.
I charge approximately £100 just to clear gutters on a 3 bed semi!

I agree with matt in a way for domestic but on large commercial you can make a buck or two being cheaper for windows or gutters

3-4 gutter jobs a week at the moment. Why would I charge high to cover the cost of the equipment, it will pay for itself in time.
I spend 3 hours on the job, clearing unblocking, pressure washing the downpipes and washing down the fascias and soffits.
Some guys on here charge £20 per side of a house, so £40 for a standard 3 bed semi. that wouldn't fill my fuel tank in my escort van!

I agree Stu, that's why I said I would charge £500-£650, I currently charge £5 per metre on residential just to clear the guttering, I  wouldn't go less than £1 per metre really.
But reading the post again, the original poster did say, not all the guttering needs clearing. so measure how much needs clearing and price it accordingly. if only half the guttering needs clearing then £300 wouldn't be too bad.

Last Christmas I helped Craig at CT east/ Polarbrite clear guttring on several blocks of flats, we cleared several hundred metres, ranging in heights from 22ft to 40ft. it took 2 vaks 2 days to complete.
a 3 bed semi only has 15 metres, this place has 640!

Thanks for the replies.
Just to be clear, i will just be clearing the debris, which is patchy and not all the way around.
I won't be washing the gutters or drainpipes inside or outside.
I will be working off a ladder this time with someone footing it. And using drain rods to push the debris along.
I think there will approximately 60 ladder climbs and 1/2 of these climbs will be to collect the debris. The other 1/2 will be spent pushing the debris towards a collection spot.
I could be way out on time but i i think it could be done within 8 hours. Only because it isn't a proper clean. I reckon 2 or 3 days (18 hours) work to do a total clean.
Matt thanks for your times. Very handy.
