Is it Illegal??

Is it illegal to do commercial work without providing risk and method statements?

The pen is mightier than the sword (and a lot easier to write with!)

I was only asking out of interest cos I have seen it stated on a window cleaners website.

Just dont get caught by the Police. They have a special squad for Risk Assessment Fraud and Neglect. They will confiscate your equipment and deport you to Australia. Better doing the work at night when you are less visable.

Or so I have been told.  :P

It is good practice to have Risk Assessments though. The only problem is that you have to rigidly stick to the method described otherwise you breach your best practice. If they ask provide one but unless you employ 5 or mor you don't have to provide them for every job.

if you employ over 5 staff then it is a legal requirement to have written method and risk assessments but for sole traders and under 5 employees they do not need to be written, having said that if the job request them then i feel you wouldnt get the job unless you provided them.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt
