cleaned my first deck yesterday
« on: July 30, 2010, 01:57:29 pm »
i cleaned my first deck yesterday, it was about 60m2 with a further 16 linear mtrs of balustrade or spindles, and it was a great confidence booster as it came up well, it is quite a few years old and i was asked to preserve and colour it with deck stain but i decided to wash it first for free just to get the experience. i think i used to much pressure as the spindles furred up quite a bit but i did not see this as a problem because in this instance as the grain opened up nicely ready to take the stain. anyway my question is could i have presprayed the deck with a cleaning agent that would have helped clean up the wood with less pressure.

With hypo it's a faster way but can damage the wood.

Walker Brothers in Bury, Gt Manc.

Hypo is about 9 quid for 25L and Percarbonate is 20 odd quid for 25kg. Not sure exact amount.

hi blast away. what per cent hypo tho is it? you can buy weak stuff from some suppliers. mine is the strong stuff. it eats lichen and algae you just have to know how to use it.

It doesn't say it on the drum so I'll find out tomorrow. It's strong anyway as I've come across 10% drums which are weak.

I got a speckle in my eye once, went to hospital.

Steam machine is great on block paving and concrete and is ideal as you know for removal of just the gum but steam cleaning pressure washing the whole area is faster but you can't always remove 100% of each piece like with dry steam.

Problems with the steamers is they can overheat.

I tend to use the steamers then have another lad rotary clean the area in the meantime.
