traditional window cleaning question
« on: July 22, 2010, 12:15:53 pm »
hi

is it possible to clean the front top windows using a point ladder without the ladder hitting the guttering on the tiled roof the tiled roof is the normal 3-4 tiles deep just wanted to know that i can do them before i do a leaflet drop.
i think it should be ok but i just wanted to check first.

to do them with a ladder you will need a stand off bracket

I have some like that and can use a pointer to reach the window safely. I do have some where I can't do this, but they seem to be deeper roof spans than your picture.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

i would do those using a wagtail squeegee on a short pole , from standing on a small ladder leaning agenst the lower gutter .

It's hard to be sure from that photo, but what about a pointer with a rojak ladder stopper?

I don't know if it is the angle of the photo but the drive looks like it "falls away" from the house making ladder work extra dangerous. Don't do it.
It's a game of three halves!

No you won't, you just need proper ladders for the job! i.e. A frame (Pointers)
You can rest the top either on the cross frame of the window or on the corner where the frame meets the brick work.

either get your ladder high into the corners of the window at an angle or get the ladder above the window, but the way that drive slopes i would have the ladder footed,

I back Stans comment and Toshies, definately get a Rojak pad, but get the wider of the 2 pads, this is because pointers have spliced legs and the legs at the base would be too wide for the smaller Rojak pad.
Also you cannot use a Rojak pad on gravel/millwaste etc.

To be honest I always avoided this type of work but it meant I was always stuck in the council estates with all the other trad cleaners

What do you do with the ones with deeper roof spans?

I've just been using a pole, but if there's a way of doing them with a ladder I'd like to know how - especially as I've been asked to quote on doing leaded windows.....

Cheers

the drive slopes away too much, get it footed.
its do-able but too risky, houses like that are made for wfp  ;)

I used to have a job where the customer was insistent on me cleaning the windows over the bay roofs.  I told them the only way I would consider it was if they fitted rawlbolts into the wall below the bay so I could tie the ladder.  I had a long run of them and they all put rawlbolts in for me ;D
