Van payload question
« on: July 21, 2010, 04:09:07 pm »
If the specs say this:
Payload=Gross vehicle weight, less kerb weight. Payload with a full tank of fuel but without driver and passengers.
And the payload is 1060kg

What does this mean? The vehicle can cary 1060kg in addition to the full fuel tank load?

they've allowed a full tank of fuel already. so it'll carry 1060kg + full tank.
driver, passengers and load will make up the 1060kg

also check that your tyres can carry what u want to put in the van,  a lot of cheap tyres are crap at carrying weight

That's how I read it. (Toyota)
Whereas my 900kg payload on my Dispatch doesn't allow for passengers or fuel I think.
Fuel tank holds 80l so close to 80kg I suppose.
If I take the kerb weight away from the gross 2330 - 1476 I get 854kg  ???

Confusing isn't it?
And not that simple.

im going to get an ex rac van for my wfp system

they take 1500 kg and are geared for towing so dont lose power tugging all that water

plus you dont need a huge van as you would for a large payload with the standard trannies they are just low roof swb tranny

only downside is they weigh about 3 ton and so fuel economy will be a bit poor but so would any big van pulling 1000 litres
i plan on having 2 600 litre tanks in it for when i go fully water fed so both of us can work all day

they look like the best option apart from colour but some arent orange seen grey ones

I don't believe this. Can't see ford changing the basic spec for one customer.

The reason I posted in the beginning was that I can never understand how the smaller French/Italian  vans manage to get such massive payloads compared to the larger VW, Ford, Toyotas etc.
All a bit boring really, but do they actually carry more weight for their size or is it just a clever marketing ploy to forget to add 80kg of fuel?

You'llprobably need to allow for an A/C unit too if you have one. They not included in the figures.

I reckon my 650l and all my kit is very very close to the limit and might well be a little over.  :-X

My 280 mwb mr transit has a payload of about 1000kg.To go to 1500kg it's long wheel base high roof. The same for the ducatto.

The scudo maxi 1200kg payload has a higher payload than the short/medium wheel base ducatto. They did this to try cover all possibities so that the vans overlap in their strenghts.

Yes Sean I refuse to believe that Rac swb trannies are 'special".

its true mate as they do it to make sure they have the max torque available for towing vehicles

it means that when under no load they rev a bit high at faster speeds and as i mentioned earlier wil probably not be the most econmical on fuel but pulling and work wise i agree

"perfect wfp vehicle!"

theres an auction in manchester that sells loads of them , ive yet to go down and check it out but i know a lad near me who runs 2 for his bin cleaning business he gets them for around £2000 with 100 000 miles and runs them for ages and loves them

also they have tail gates which i like , only downside is theyre bright orange but i have seen the odd one grey or re sprayed and they look smart

if i can find the right one i will spray it or wrap it, either way it wont make a difference

check our british car auctions they are nationwide and they de fleet rac
