Hi all,
I have had a complaint about a cill on a conservatory been sctratched with WFP, i cant get my head round it, i have told the customer im very sorry and im going to have a look at the scratches tomorrow, how can i rectify this problem guys she says that some of them you can get your nail in

Please help!!!

It is almost certainly where your brush has left marks. Was it a vikan?
Anyway, go round with some upvc cleaner and those marks that look like scratches should disappear.

Thanks for the reply mark the brush is a brodex, i think the scratches are quite deep though!!

If its deep it needs sanded out, electric sander 400 then 200 grit. Then you need a sisal mop and cream cleaner to buff it, get a male fitting mop head and put it in a cordless drill to polish .

If you scratched it how could you not see it only a few inches away from your nose? Sounds odd to me

i would be very wary of Sanding the plastic. a customer of mine has recently had new windows fitted and where the sill section are joined (curved bay window) the maker has sanded the join smooth. just by wiping the sill each clean im trapping dirt in these fine  sanding scratches and looks bad

The maker has sanded the weld because thats the only way to get a clean  finish , if its still scratched its because they have not gone to a fine enough grit or polished properly. My original post should have said 200 THEN 400, but you could go finer still . The other option is a upvc repair kit, like a wax block and soldering iron, but they rarely match the original colour and are visible.

you will require

sanding block from b&Q medium - coarse grain, dont get a block of wood and put sand paper round it! the block i use is green and only a few quid.

cream cleaner from tesco

cloths

wipe the sill clean first, then aply the cream cleaner, work with about a foot or two at a time, use the sanding block back and forth, press hard and rub away with pleanty of elbow grease. rinse with a hose then wipe dry, trust me it works fine, ive done this at least 10 times over the last 2 years, works every time.

Any use of abrasive tools or pads will dull the plastic. Even cream cleaner should be used sparingly as this will also remove the shine and scratch the plastic.

No offence mate but thats rubish, as I said I have done this many times and they looked better than ever and still do years later

as i wrote above , the join area (about 6inches) has become marked just by me breifly wiping a scrim over  once per month.  im thinking that the join was welded,then smoothed over and although looked perfect initially it has fine scratches that attract dirt.  i tried a cream cleaner on a very small part but still looks a yellowy stain. i now dont even wipe the join area as im scared the house owner will notice something

ive left loads of brush marks it generally happens
over time.

if the marks arent too deep get a tub of astonish or
another type of ceramic cleaner couple of rubs over
with cloth brings them up lovely fills the marks in and
a lovely shiny finish

How can you scratch the sill on a conservatory with a wfp brush, is the sill not made of the same material as the cons frames? you wash frames with wfp so whats the difference.

As said any sanding without buffing up with a sisal mop will result in a noticeable dull patch, 23 years making upvc windows. If you are not confident do not attempt to repair it as the chances are you will make it worse.

Lee the guy is right as soon as you use a abrasive cream cleaner (most are) abrasive on plastic you take off the top coat, this will make for a dulling of the plastic should it not be cleaned regular, it also attracts dirt due to it not being the silky smooth finish it once was,

as ive said before astonish mate, made for cleaning baths
ovens and plastics and great for filling minor scratches
