i think vat should usually calculated before p+p allthough some may sneak it in after to get a better profit. Not 100% sure though.

Hi all,

Vat should be charged before p&p i got a mate who works with Vat and he just told me,

i.e product value then add vat on top of that then add the postage.

If you pay after postage this means he is making profit on top of the postage and you should not have to pay vat on postage.

Hope this helps.

Andy

its not illegal, vat is charged on most services, products ,labour , if your registered you charge it .
suppliers make profit they are a company too , just as when you guys clean windows you make a profit on your time so they do on what they sell. if you dont like the cost find a different company as would someone who does not like your service charge

If you use a courier to deliver you can charge Vat on that delivery charge (and your packing cost).
If you post the item (using stamps or franking machine for the postage cost) you can put Vat on the packing but the postage should be seperate and without vat..

I might be wrong as I am not vat registered, but I think all vat goes to customs and excise, and is not profit.

A pleasure SW....

And Rob B... Yes Vat does go to Customs and Excise but some naughty people (or those ignorant of the law) charge Vat on Vat-free items (like books) and don't send it to the C&E.

But would an instruction manual for a wfp system be a book, part of the system or a spare part? Would it make a difference if it was purchased as a replacement for one that you lost (which had been delivered as part of the system)? These little grey areas are sent to try us and give the civil servants gainful employment!
