Employee mileage allowance
«
on:

Hi,
I've recently taken on an employee who will be using her own vehicle for domestic cleaning work. I wondered if I'm obliged to pay her a mileage allowance.
I read somewhere about employees being able to claim tax relief from HMRC for mileage allowance. She won't be paying much tax so I wondered what would be the best thing for me to do?
Thanks

hi there
you arent obliged to pay your employee the expense, HOWEVER i also think its not fair for your employee to take the burden of some of your operating costs.
you may decide to pay them 25p per mile or less or more, the employee can then claim tax relief from HMRC for the difference between wht you pay and the approved mileage rate.

Most people travel a reasonable distance to a single place of work so it will depend on the distances involved and whether there are multiple places of work.
The employee will have to notify their insurer if they are travelling to multiple locations but this shouldn't mean any increase in premium.
Here's a very informative link I just found on google: -
