Does anynoe have a portfolio they use when approaching commercial work,i am about to put 1 together, using letters of recomendation from my excisting commercial clients along with public liability certificate and a letter explaining the quality and so forth  of the work i do from my self,
if so does it get you any work you have quoted for rather than just turning up and giving a quote with them knowing nothing about you, cheers,Gaz.

I don't, and I'd have a job to create one, as I don't have much commercial work sadly. :'(

If I did, I probably do that straight away now.
Sounds a great idea.

Good luck. :)

I've heard of window cleaning firms doing this.  Ben Giles, a forum member from South Wales won the contract for window cleaning the Athens Stadium during the last Olympics.  It even made the papers that a UK firm won the bid.

Most people congratulated him and his company, however I did read a slight dig in anotherforum where it was said that he only did it so it would look good on his portfollio (insinuating - I guess - that he was too cheap).

Don't ask me why a Greek window cleaning company couldn't do it!

I dont think Ben did the job in the end as the stadium was not finished in time, and it did not leave him enough time to do it.

Hi Gaz as I've said to you before put a web site together,
www. looks good on vehicle and bussines cards can put a lot of information on it (cheaper than printing)

People can check you out without you calling.

I have about 1,000 hits every 6 months

Most that see it comment on how Professional it looks

cost a few pounds a year..

If you want will help you set it up...

Or print a two sided leaflet as a mini port folio (you can leave it with them)and direct them towards the wed site
again I have templates for this and can let you have them..

Gaz details like you said to show should go within your quotation pack, not when you go and met the customer, most wont 3 quotes and have the time and on commercial work dont wont to know all this ento they wont your services, so if you put it in with in your quote then you are half way there as most window cleaners put one bit of paper in the post and that way with all docs they think this company has cover every thing, we need from a contractor.

Going on the post heading PORTFOLIO I would agree a website is a good place for them to go, But we have just got some professional photo done of us at work and our business unit, so I put the photo's in a portfolio folder and when I go and price, they get to see at first hand wont they could be buying into, and not lost a job yet ;)

I portfolio any potential customers and am constantly upgrading and adjusting the presentation.

Lots of working photos, history of the business, customers we have done and do work for, health and safety, services available.

If put together properly it is a very good tool for gaining additional work.

Well come on you guys that have them and say they work - lets see them so we can copy your ideas !!!!!!!!!

And before you say it - yes I have shared (or offered to share) many of my leaflets,  letters, book-keeping documents with the forum.  Am particularly interested in the quotation pack Andy.  Do you bind it or is it in a file ?  How detailed is it and consequently how long is it.? Send me some samples if you dont mind sharing them.

Alan :  How much did your web site cost to initially set up and how much does it cost to run and who maintains it for you ?

Cheers. ;D
