Well that's me back from my weeks holiday in Crete had a good time up until Thursday afternoon. I decided to play a game of 5 a side football and in the 3rd game I felt as if someone had shot me in the back of my leg and heard a loud popping noise, down I went and new right away I had snapped my achilles tendon in my left leg. So off to the doctors in an ambulance, he then tells me that I'm going to hospital for surgery. I was operated on at 8pm on Thursday and then let out on Friday about 1.00pm as I was told I would be allowed to fly home. Got on the plane and was in agony when the plane was taking off as they hadn't given me strong enough pain killers. I went to the Southern General (Glasgow)today and they said that no way should they have let me fly so soon after surgery  If you are planning on going away make sure you have good travel insurance. I had insurance through my bank that covered everything, there was an Irish woman there that broke here arm with no insurance and it cost her 500euros. So its of work for me for at least 4-5 weeks, not good when your self employed, glad I've got 2 sickness policies though.

Hope all goes well Bob.
When I did mine some years ago now I was put in plaster immediately after the op and was not allowed to put any weight on the foot whatsoever for at least 4 weeks,then the plastercast was removed and the ankle reset at a different angle over the course of 4 months,this was followed by 12 months of intense physio,and it was never the same again.

Bob,

Having snapped my Achillies 8 Years ago you will be out of action alot longer than 4-5 weeks. Minimum of 12 but your leg will need building up again so more like 15-20.

Worsed injury you can have, I would rather of broken my leg than have to go through that again. Just take it easy becasue it is a serious injury and no way will you be working in 4 weeks. You have had the right action in having it repaired, much better and will be stronger after. After a year off with no Football i did start playing again but never the same again. Just remeber to rest as the first 4 weeks are really important in recovery.

4-6 weeks yer if your a 15 year old teenage full off testosterone. 'll go with the man above and it depends on how old you are, i got MD from the paras, the guy next to me in a bed snapped his took him 13months, wish the best off luck mate

Bob, That looks nasty. Does your insurance pay out straight away, as most have a deferment period.
By the way anyone that is thinking of income protection insurance - I am with 'American Life'.  With this company you get the usual income protection during times of sickness AND you get all your premiums back at age 65. That's next year for me.
