major problems guys any one help just connected system upits 50psi going into systemfirstly it goes through carbon then sediment then in to 4040 and the water is is coming out of 4040 at 140ppm out of th pure water but only getting aa tiny amout of water through it even if i close waste pip as well wot could be stopping most of the water coming out and what can i do to get ppm down ?

Production rate is about right,.. the TDS is way high though.

I assume its a new 4040? Chances are that the membrane isn't seated properly in the housing & there is some of the waste water leaking into the pure outlet.

Have you let it run for 15 mins & re-checked? Membranes are shipped soaked in a preservative,.. it has to be flushed out before you get pure.

well i won a 4040 housing on ebay it had a membrane in it i emailed the people to ask how old membrane was and they said the housings dont come with membrane but mine did but only 1 end of the membrane has a lose rubber washer but other end of membrane doesnt

and also after the 4040 it goes to di bottle where then feeds in to tank but its coming out of di even less. i have standard hose through the system shouldnt make much difrence should it

plus theres so much pressure coming out of waste surely when i shut waste off i should be getting more water through pure water hole but it stays the same amount

You sure its not just an o-ring or not seated properly in the housing?

It's been a while since I thought about my own setup, but I'm sure I have my particulate filter prior to the carbon filter??? I could be wrong there though!

Anywho....

With a 4040 your waste to pure ratio should be 50/50 if you are lucky, you can push it higher but the higher you push it the more you reduce the life of your membrane.
If you have it too high, your membrane will become clogged up and your production of pure water will increasingly slow down.
You may well have a knackered membrane, or a washer not seated correctly, but it won't hurt you to flush the membrane for a good 30 or 40 minutes, then reset the flow rate so that it is at BEST 50/50 pure to waste.
With my own 4040 I can fill my 1000l IBC tank in about 5 hours, and until recently the R/O was bringing my TDS reading down to around 0.004ppm which was absolutely fine for window cleaning....started to rise now though so have had to fit a DI vessel  in the van. 
You do need good mains pressure though, or a booster pump to get the best out of your 4040.
So try the above first before going to the - not inconsiderable - expense of buying a new membrane.

I think Andy's problem is that he can't adjust the ratio.  All the input water is coming out through the waste outlet.  This tells me that there is a fault in the seating of the membrane so the water is simply bypassing the membrane.  Either there is one or more seals missing altogether or the seals are not doing their job.  It  could even be that the membrane has been inserted the wrong way round - this can be rectified by either taking the membrane out and putting it back the other way, or if it's like mine, swapping the end caps.

Whatever the problem, a dodgy second hand membrane isn't good news - the housing should be OK so rather than mess about trying to get the system to work, I would opt for the new membrane remedy, and be extremely careful about how you fit it.

isnt it suppose to go though the sediment first then the carbon filter ?
