improving my round...!!
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:25:05 pm »
ive picked up the odd new job near some other work and i went round to price one up(3 bed semi with a small extension).

i said £12,he said the last cleaner charged £6!

he came every month, didnt do frames or sills and missed the 2 small skylights on extension.

so i said ill clean all sills and frames plus the skylights and clean them every 2 months!he said thats fine!

i went up and down the street(about 40 houses)nearly every houses had dirty windows!!

ill be canvassing them on saturday once ive got through my other work this week and fit any new jobs in next monday.

all new work is being put on 2 monthly but for a higher price than existing work that i have monthly for the same type and size of property.

have any of you other guys done this?as ill be using wfp there is hardly a window i cannot clean!!

im looking to really improve my round this next year or two.

ill be actively seeking out bigger properties again at a good price with a longer frequency.offering them a complete valet service for windows and frames!!

any other suggestions for improving rounds??
price higher/work harder!

awcs ive already got a full round more or less most on 4 weekly moderate.so ly priced and very compact with a few well priced bigger country houses,a few commercial etc.

my new way i think is to just offer the 2 monthly at a higher price with all frames/sills and awkward windows thrown in.

a few dodgy beer brigade types have been cleaning round there and the custys have all been used to rock bottom prices and shoddy jobs(not even sills wiped!!) :o so i think i need to talk some of them round and offer them a better job for  the same money they were paying the other guy but less often!! ;) ;D ;D

hi james!true!i never even touched the frames on my very compact work but i always cleaned the sills!!

boy! did i clean them last month though!some were absolutely filthy!(esp the ones i used a trad pole on previously!!)

wfp really gets into all the nooks and crannies!!

your right james!give em a proper job at a higher price and less often so they dont say"its not a month already is it??"

i even found myself blading off the odd downstairs windows on a first clean this morning as i knew it would spot!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

hi lammy ive got enough work to keep me going for 20 days a month.most of it ive been cleaning for years.

a lot are pretty lowish priced and very compact but ill never really make much more on these accounts and the fact is now im using wfp on nearly everything i need to change my business model!!

i work in a very rich affluent area and its time for me to go after the better paying jobs and make more money as ive been guilty of idling in a retrogressive groove in regards to window cleaning for many years!

its only since a gave up the booze(im an alcoholic!)and packed the drumming in that ive started to realise i could make a half decent living at this game.

ive been sober nearly 4 years now and paid all my debts off and bought the van and wfp.

so heres to a brighter and more prosperous future for all of us if we just have the right attitude and work hard!!

best wishes

Other suggestions for improving rounds!

Dazmond you could try this in your area!

We have also taken on full house maintenace, by that i mean we can get £200+ for a house which includes windows gutters facia, con, windows inside/outside including frames all done on over the course of the year, this we are doing on monthly instalments works well both ways ie: £200 div by12= just over £16 a month This looks good for the customer as they were paying £10 a month just for the windows so we changed the window cleans from 4 to 8 weekly as they really didn`t need done that often, it works for us as well as we don`t have to canvass for the gutter and con/cleaning for next spring, i mean if you are looking for work for the winter now is the time to be taken customers on

As you work in a very rich affluent area this could be ideal!

sounds good james!

i do offer conny roof cleans/fascias etc.im not too into gutter cleans as i used to hate doing them and i want to keep my ladder work to a minimum!

i do believe the hard work/canvassing and investment in wfp will pay off in the next year or two despite the doom and gloom of the economic downturn!!

i think its just a matter having the right attitude and working hard and a professional approach to my work and business! ;) ;D ;D

after years of screwing my life up with the booze things are starting to to get a lot better and im determined to make a success of my life and go on living to better affect!! ;) ;D ;D

Dazmond I know you have a lot to think about and do, as you have just gone over to wfp!But do set yourself targets once you are confident in wfp and you have everything going well,
Most businesses can run on similar ways, Take builders even if they don’t do the work themselves they employ contractors  plumber, electrician, joiner ,tiler decorator etc: He makes money on each individual trade
There is nothing to stop you pricing up gutter cleans even if you don’t do the work yourself and not make money from them!
I have been talking to a local shop owner who has just opened up recently who sells plants and he has just started doing grass cutting, I have passed some work his way!
From customers of mine who`s gardener never turned up to cut their grass!
Now this is getting quite comman as the summer window cleaning brigade
I don`t no if you notice but every year there are always different guys going around doing grass cutting they don`t seem to last just like the summer window cleaning brigade so why not make money from it, so included in my house maintenance cleans I am as from next season going to be adding grass cutting and pressure washing as well to offer a total maintenance package! so I will be making money of the gutter cleaner, grass cutter, and the pressure washer guy just like the builder guy even thou I wont be doing all the work
Now everything I do I always try and offer that little bit extra than the others, so as for the grass cutting it will mean grass cutting and all plants watered, think the customers might like this little touch as it saves them having to do them when they get home from a hard days work! i think other people do this but not in my area!
The pressure washing side of things I am still thinking of ideas!
If you look at property maintenace companies they now include everything so why not window cleaners,
If you think back to when you first started doing windows trad then that is all a window cleaner did, clean windows! a few did gutters not all because some felt gutter work was just to high facias where also high work,
But with wfp this has changed window cleaning for the better I might add as it has opened more opportunities for us, Now window cleaners don`t just do window cleaning! Tradesmen are becoming multi-trade are window cleaners just going to clean windows?  I think in the very near future more and more window cleaners will begin to realise they can build a bigger better business by not just doing windows!
