trying out a new brush...!!
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:58:50 pm »
ive got 5 brushes now

2 vikan(sill/standard rectangle)

1 brodex(used on short pole)

2 supalites(mono/flocked)

i got the dual trim mono today so im gonna give that a whirl tommorrow.

i find the flocked is better to use on large wooden georgian windows as the bristles are softer on the wood.

do any of you use the supalite mono for regular cleans?

and do you chop and change brushes depending on the type of window?
price higher/work harder!

STOP!!!

DO NOT BUY ANOTHER £20 ish BRUSH!!!

Try this:

Go to ASDA and buy a Bentley brush.  They are a light brown coloured head and shaft.  The ones with the grey bristles are best.

Dump the shaft.

Go to your local Aquarium shop and buy a couple of meters of Aquarium Air tube (6mm OD, 4mm ID)
and a couple of flanged joiners and a Y or T joiner.

Take a pair of pliers and pull out 3 clumps of bristles from the middle row about 4 clumps in from the ends of each end.

Drill a 6mm hole in each end of the brush where you have removed the bristles.

Cut 3 x 6inch lengths of the tube. Push a joiner on the end of 2 lengths and snip of the other end of the joiner off.

Push the tubes through the holes from under the brush and squeeze the joiner in the hole in the brush.

Join the 2 lengths of tube with the Y or T and add the 3rd length.

The brush will screw onto an angle joint and with a bit of heat (fAg lighter!) the4mm ID will push onto a 6mm joiner to join up with your pole hose.

1 Cheap, good, light brush.....cost under a fiver!

OK they may not last as long as the ones you buy but you can make 4 for the price of a bought one!

Try it....I never use anything else

OR!!!!
Instead, with the time saved from going to Asda, the aquarium shop, B&Q, and an hour in the garage fiddling with a cheap brush designed for sweeping your drive, and the half hour mopping up the blood and applying the plasters to your fingers “coz the drill slipped”. Go out and clean half a dozen houses.
Then with a small portion of the money earned. Order a purpose built brush from one of the multitude of websites, it will take approx 5 minutes. (Choose the design with your needs in mind)
Then with the left over money, why not take the wife and kids out for the evening.  ;D

Daz, mono dualtrim for maintenance cleans, flocked dual trim for first cleans or leaded and that's the only two you need for glass.
Flocked dual is good but drags on the glass and so is more tiring to use all day. Dual trim mono just whips across the glass.
Don't bother with stupid calculations - it's a tool - you can't clean wfp without one. If you need it buy it, then when it wears out buy another .... simples.

Diy one if you want to but they won't last very long - Gardiners have the equipment cracked at the moment, they really produce the goods.
The Superlight brushes should last a year easily - any problems ring them up and they will sort it.

Hi Daz

I agree with Daz -

Mono for normal service cleans and dual flocked for first cleans and leaded.

I find the mono too stiff and the wrong bristle angle for gliding over leaded windows.

I use the duel trim mono day in day out. Leaded, first cleans and regular cleans. No problems. I can see the sence in using a flocked brush for first cleans but I can only be bothered to change brushes for conny roofs.

The mono is the best in my opinion as it rinses well as it scrubs.

Simon.

Hi Daz,I brought the Superlight Dual Trim Flocked Brush online yesterday, along with some lighter tubing and a connecter, got it from gardiners,Iwanted to make my Brodex Hydra{25ft} a bit lighter. Thought it would arrive in a couple of days so I was over the moon when it came this morning. However everything was in the parcel but the piece that attaches the stock to the pole{the thredded bit} I was gutted as I have got to start on second cleans this week{finally}and was really looking foward to having the lighter setup.  :(Anyway it seems you have made the transition from trad to WFP and things are going good for you Well done and best wishes Ant. 8)

I've had my Ionic brush for nearly two years now, and I'd be amazed if I'm not still using it in another two.
It's still good as new.

How many brushes do you actually need? Your in danger af buying one of everything on offer which IMHO is a bit of a waste of money.

i made the same mistake when i started, spent hundreds on brushes, now i use one of the first brushes i bought, kept trying different brushes in the mistaken belief that they were the secret to getting good results.

good technique is the one that gets results  ;)

sunshine none will be a waste of money mate! ;D ;D

the vikan sill/mono brushes will come in handy for conny roofs/fascias etc

the brodex brush i use on my short downstairs pole

and the superlites will be for my main pole.i do reckon the flocked is better for certain wooden georgian/leaded windows.less harsh bristles that could damage the wood on my big country houses!! ;) ;D ;D

i have no problem with buying equipment and certainly dont penny pinch to save a few quid here and there!

everything will get used time and time again!!

I used to use vikan mons on all work,
I tried a bentley on a couple of houses and gave it back to my wife to sweep the floor with as it didnt cut the mustard for me. I then tried a mono superlite, looked fantastic but didnt do the job (was either first on second series.
then ordered a duel trim flocked super lite from gardiners was and still is the best brush I have used for rinsing on and off pencil jets also. Now have a few more duel trim flocked, the newest type, but they seem to splay alot more than the older style (which imo is a shame, why change a perfect brush :( ) I will test them for a month sometime when my first runs out, I prefer my first one. I hope I dont have to go through chopping and changing brushes again to find one I like.

Alex make series brushes that way we can choose what we like and not what you do  ;)
