DI before or after?
« on: July 04, 2010, 02:36:20 pm »
I used to work for a company who had Ionics systems in their vans. They were piped up so the DI was after the tank, so I set mine up the same way, but have been told that its better having the DI before the tank as you get a better flow rate.
Which way is the best? ???

Before tank would just mean youll be filling the tank with pure, before, after makes no odds really still going to be flowing.

I fill mine with pure in the morning from a static so its pure when it goes in.

why dont u buy 2 di vessels and use the old resin before the tank to lower the tds  and good resin after the tank to lower it to 000

I could never understand why you would need to put the DI after the tank, it seemed logical to me to put it after the RO so the water was pure in the tank, whether you have a static or an on-board system.

Then I got my 40-40.  The water flows from it so quickly the DI doesn't have time to completely purify it, so it comes out of the RO at about 7ppm, and out of the DI at about 4ppm and into my IBC's.

If I was bothered I would install DI's in the vans after the pump to 'polish' the water but we get perfect results with anything less than 10ppm so I don't.

If you have a 40-40 and you want 0ppm then I suppose you should have a DI after the tank as the water flow to the brush is far slower than the flow from the RO

I have my DI before the tank so that I can fill backpacks from the tank,.. I've just got one of those dispensing nozzles that look like petrol pump ones. :)
