ford transit mwb 280
« on: July 01, 2010, 06:35:08 pm »
Hi guys

I've been offered a transit 280 mwb but not sure sure what the weight limit is ??? its need to be able to cope with my tm and bits i.e waste tank, fresh water tank, hose's

Would this size transit be ok with it all?

Thanks

Depends what age it is and whether it a high or medium roof as to what the payload is but it's very unlikely to be suitable for a TM. What machine do you have?

Call Ford & ask them what the payload is, you will need to work out all the weights of things going in the van.  Will you be carrying fresh water or waste water about when on the road. Liquids weigh more than people think.

I think the clue is in the model number! :)

2800kg

Not enough for a TM and all the gubbins, let it pass by, unless the TM is tiny.

Well for the latest model the payload is only 942kilos, nowhere near enough for a TM. Don't always take the model no's at face value, Ford produced lots of 280's which were only rated at 2640GVW !

I have a 280 mwb mid roof. The log book states 2710kg max weight. It was a long time ago but I recall asking the same question and the max payload is around 800kg. I've had double that in there and it still looks and handles alright. It also has the 125ps engine to pull it. I would suggest a bigger model but the downside would be the plated mot.  This 280 is mot'd as a normal car/small van.

The Blazer is a pretty light TM though compared to most.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
