HF5 4040
« on: June 28, 2010, 08:20:57 pm »
Just set up my new 4040 from Gaps. It's leaking a little from the fitting membrane. Took it back off and reset the seal but it leaks when I turn the tap off ( no pressure ). Any ideas?

Another question in Tds is around 300 out is about 25 before di. Is that right? My 300gpd use to come out at 4. 60psi tap pressure

Thanks

That doesnt sound right, i used to think gaps were good, but after the problems steve uk had with them i would definatly not ever use them again. seriously bad after sales, infact probably the worst after sales you can get.   GAPS YOU ARE CRAP

Sorry, can't help you with the leak problem, but as a guide my HF4 40-40 brings 450tds down to 14 on tap pressure only.

Can't help with your leak either, not sure where you mean its leaking. But i found that my HF5 membrane needed flushing for a few hours and then running producing water for somewhere near 24 hours before my TDS come down to its proper level. Mine run with a booster pump @80PSI takes my TDS from 130 to about 9/10.

Why what happened? I so far have found the after sales very good?

Are you talking about the seal on the champ housing, where you pushed the HF5 membrane into, then put the white clip round the end?

Thanks for all the replies

yes the leak is coming out from behind the White clip. I have took the o ring out and reseated it but still drips but only when pressure is dropped

I'll give it a week and see what happens

how long will the resin last at 20 - 25 ppm? How many litres?

When it was at 4 it lasted a long time but can imagine 25 will be quite quick use about 1200 ltrs a week

I've got an HF4 from Gaps.  Inlet tds 300ish, boosted pressure 68psi.  Ratio 3:1, tds after RO 007

Had a problem with previous membrane which was distorted sealing ring (stainless steel housing) allowing unfiltered water to escape around the seal and contaminate the pure water.

Two points to remember:

   1. If you don't flush regularly, or if your ratio is too low (less than 2 1/2:1) your membrane will clog up much sooner.

   2.  As you increase the ratio so you reduce the pressure at the membrane.  You need to experiment to get the best combination

I've never bothered with a softner. My tap tds is normally around 350-380, but checked it this evening and its 493  :o

How many ltrs could you get out of the resin before it's knackered?

I have had my HF5 since October, and on average i use around 500 litres a day. The TDS is still at 000.
I also have an old RO Man 4040 that we fill 1000 litres most days, and the tds is at 004 now, and the resin is about 11-12 months old.

I haven't used it today but will be using it tomorrow night to fill up, hopefully it will have settled in and seated properly if not I'll have to give Gaps a call and see what they can do.

Will let you know tomorrow

thanks again for all replies

Oh one other thing,  my 300gpd pressure guage said I was getting 58psi from the tap, this hf5 is saying only 30psi from tap on both prefilters?

No.  The membrane will last a couple of years, even though I'm making up to 9,000lt a week.  At a couple of hundred pounds, I reckon the membrane is excellent value for money (about £1 a week)

I also don't worry too much about resin - anything less than 10ppm is fine for cleaning windows so why spend more than you have to?

I get my tds down to around 19 but my water is quite low pressure, when the membrane is on flush i only get around 14 - 20 psi  :'(

I do have two blue DI's so it does last quite long for me and im not fully WFP

THave you got the pipe pushed deep enough. Remove the white clip and see if the pipe will go deeper into the fitting before replacing the clip. Good luck.

tds is around 17 this time so is coming down slowly
