Check your payload - the early ones (pre 55) were about 620kg I think and I reckon a 400 is about the right size. (dimension and weight of water) That's what I've got in my 56 plate doblo. (Payload 736kg)

Side doors are helpful too.

Just an update, I have seen another van exactly the same year 2002 but with 170,000 miles !
It has been regularly serviced .
Will the engine be good for another 30,000 miles ?

I wouldn't touch it mate. There's plenty of better one's about. I got a 02 with 48,000 on the clock, not a bad little van but it is pretty basic ie. radio cassette( no cd) and manual winding windows.
But it does the job, look for the JTD (turbo diesel) version which should go better than the standard 1.9 Diesel i've got.

Only thing putting me off is the high mileage !

Any vehicle on 178,000 is going to need some work shortly - shafts - shocks - bushes etc, if not the engine, clutch gearbox. Also, how confident are you that the cambelt doesn't need doing? Every 72000 on a doblo IIRC.

I'd be wary. But then again a mate of mine just paid £650 for a pug 406HDi on 205,000 on a 52 plate - but he's "handy" and only does two days a week with 200L in the back so has time to fix it when it goes wrong.

If I was working 4 days a week plus I'd bite the bullet and get something decent.
