Pressure Washing Gutters + Fascias/Soffits
« on: May 28, 2010, 04:11:28 pm »
OK, it seems a bit debatable, but I would like to know if you guys use your pressure washers for:

1) Clearing guttering?
2) Cleaning Fascias and Soffits (what about vents?)?

I just cant see the need for a gutter vac if the pressure washer does the job, albeit a bit messy...

Theres a large difference between cleaning the outsides of guttering, facias and soffits and putting the hook on your telescopic lance and blowing out all the crap from the inside of the gutter. I think that once you have done this the result will deter you in the future and you would only use a low pressure nozzle, all the crap ends up in the swan neck if it dos'nt cover every house in the street. A gutter vac will be my next investment

I do this as standard practise but when cleaning out gutters I turn the revs down - considerably!!!

Good luck

well, it's either £100ish quid on a lance and gutter attachment, or over £600 for a vac.

i am looking at it as a stop gap until i can fully justify the vac, but may just plump for it anyway.

what about the soffits with vents? can the be pressure washed?

Gutter vac first, then low pressure gutter hook to water test/rinse, then turn it up slightly to clear/test downpipe!!
Soffits, fascias outside of gutters wet with extendable power pole agitate with brush on pole and TFR then clean with extendable power pole!!! With regards to the vents just be careful and in fairness the amount of water is not a major problem

Works for me ;)

100 % agree ! been there done that !!

Works fine cleaning the outsides !

But as for inside of gutters - don't bother - I've always ended up getting the ladders out whenever i've tried so it just defeats the object.

BUT it will give you jeff capes type arms!! + maybe a hernia if yer old!

thanks for the interesting feedback guys.

i have read that lowering the pressure and not getting too close to the gutter would shift debris, but just sounds very messy!

to those who use their pw on fascias and outsides of gutters, do you use a harness?

I dont find the need to use the harness on domestics as they are usually shortish runs, but on commercials sometime i will wear it.

The harness is useless,.. I used it twice & then discovered the job was easier without it!

Personally I'd try to avoid high pressure on gutters as there is a slim chance of doing damage. I use an x-jet to spray chems on the outside of gutters to clean them. The jet is barely more powerful than a garden hose.

Cleaning out the inside of the gutters can be a pain. Use a high pressure nozzle and it'll blow the contents of the gutter everywhere and also make the lance very hard to control,.. but if you use a low pressure nozzle it just washes the dirt into the downpipe & can cause nasty blockages. I still often resort to ladders for this but, but plan on a hybrid system with a low pressure nozzle to loosen the dirt & a smaller than normal wet vac to remove it.
