i like it, slow not a problem if you charge accordingly and theres a lot of advantages to get the price over conventional methods, health and safety aspect of it alone would warrent double the going rate, bet it costs a wee fortune though.

how does it work then?

hi there

basically its a confined grit type blasting unit, very similar to closed cabinet blasting machines where an item is inserted into the cabinet and then blast cleaned, the grit is then recylcled and reused.

the benefit of the system is that it reuses the blast media, an therefore contains the cost.

i do however doubt the lack of PPE on the users, blasting equipment is very dangerous if there is any failure therefore i would want to be properly protected.

as for the speed, i does appear slow, therefore large areas may prove slow going.

re health and safety, mention media blasting to any local authority or any client really, even if it is a contained system, and they will want every piece of paperwork that you can imagine.

regards

martin

I thought it was quite quick as you dont have to wait for an hour or more for chemicals to work breaking down graffiti on brick and concrete, then you need to wait again for the wall to dry before a second or third application of chemical to remove the shadow ghosting.
In the winter it takes even longer for the chemicals to work and clear up all the old chemicals and water left behind on paths.

You need to look at your chemicals if you have to wait an hour for your chemicals to work. This think will tie up funds in one piece of kit for one task where a pressure washer can be used for many tasks. This will need a huge generator to be run in a remote location as tags are seldom next to a supply and I'd like to see that stuffed in his estate car. I can see this having a place for someone but not me. I bet it won't be cheap if Omnipole are the agents for a German machine anyway I cannot talk about it just in case I say something he dislikes and he threatens to sue me for every penny again

BDCS how many different types of chemical remover to you use.
sometimes we need to use two three different types to remove some colour tags on natural stone. Mostly we use  diachloromethane which we mix with formic acid to make it work better. We have to cone areas off from public because chemical can cause burns then we set up the hot pressure washer because cold washer doesnt work well removing graffiti. All this takes about 40 mins before we start putting remover on walls then we need to wait for remover to emulsify paint or graffiti  and sometimes reapply more remover in hot weather because the active ingrediant has evaporated. If felt tip pen for graffiti was used we need to use chlorine to remove shadow ghost all takes ages.

hi there

you would nt want to be using this system without coning off and taping the area, weve coned, taped and put vans in the way to block off access in the past, and the public just ignore and walk through. so there is a potential of even more danger if they were to walk through when you were blasting.

however the kit could be useful, its just another tool in the toolbox.

I use Selden chemicals which I have always found to work well, even the plastic safe one which I use on coated cladding

I'd say apply chemicals first using a couple of cones then set the gear up - I do tags early in the morning when nobodys about. I find the silvers and golds are the worst tags but I had a call from a contract painter whoose employee had a row with his missus and kicked a tin of cladding paint over the concrete panels below the cladding - That really was a bitch to get off as DHL are really fussy, I used acetone and then full power for that.

That is just one componant that may be in a coating remover - There are others and slowly they are replacing the more harmful ones. The EC banning chemicals is a big statement - are you a tree hugger by any chance ?

I was passing on information that is important to sensible contractors that products such as nitromors will soon be banned. How does that make me a tree hugger.

Its one componant part of a product which will be replaced by a more enviromentally acceptable version - hardly the EC banning chemicals. There are alternatives already available that do work without the need to spend £6k on a machine especially to remove the odd tag. I was just wondering if you were a green party / greenpeace type that would prefer we still lived in mud huts and never exposed ourselves to any chemicals as you seen to support an EU ban on the odd chemical  ::) Maybe I should get down to B&Q and stockpile Nitromors or the world will be covered in grafitti - Happy days

What a smart ass
your obviously not as big a contractor as your website would like people to believe if you think 6k is a lot of money. Most graffiti contractors have 20k + Aquila hot washers and spend more than 6k a month on chemicals

whats the point in 20k Aquila hot washer, when a hot box will do the job?
