i agree in a way and that was my thinking, also agree with cammy on getting the mobile out there hands ;D

ive taught hundreds of young lads in the army but teaching a halfwit from central scotland with no threat of jail or punishment is proving a wee bit harder

arrrr I to use the carrot and stick method. My time served it worked wonders. Give them reward (don't need to be ££££) and if that don't work, WACK THEM WITH THE F.ING STICK!

just get rid and blame it on the recession. legally u cant employ anyone for 6 months or so ( or some tosh like that) but u can get help from the huge 'self employed' sector. will  he actually take you to court? as if.

aye you are right mate i just got me going tonight when the house owner showed me the windows and when i looked at the con it was covered in webs, she wasnt bothered about that but i was, the thing is he can clean a window

but again its my lively hood i should be worried about not his

If he is as bad as you make out then the fact that he has missed out windows on a house on more than one ocasion could be construed as "gross missconduct" and an automatic sacking. You would need to get in touch with him in writing (text or e-mail will do) giving at least 48 hours notice. The letter should state that you are inviting him to a disaplinary meeting regarding his conduct. If you have evidance of his poor work practice ie maybe a photo of these windows he's missed then I would produce these and see what he comes up with. If he's a young lad I would even allow him to have a parent or guardian present during the meeting (but only as a witness they cant talk for him). Once you've had the meeting tell him you'll be in touch by letter to determin the outcome, give it a day or so and post a letter telling him he's dismissed.


But if you want to keep it simple and you think there is no danger of him trying to take you to a tribunial then you could just miss out the meeting part and type up a letter saying that he has missed windows on a number of ocasions and that it is whoely unaceptable so you have no choice but to let him go.

Or if you do not intend to fill his position in the next 6 months tell him due to the current economic climate you have to kay him off.

stu,if you were in the army and taught young kids i guess you were at least a junior nco,mate give him a good bollocking for the missing windows (shouting about one inch from his face as i used to get)that will either buck his ideas up or he'll walk there and then job done! :D

iwhen he has a nick in a blade he doesnt just change it he comes whining to me that his squeegie doesnt work.

That's Wor Lass to a 'T'!  I've kindly explained that there's always plenty of spare blades and she should not make a fuss, just change it.

After I explained this about 1000 times (I always exaggerate), she sometimes even changes the blade without whining to me about it first.

Nobody comes to work to be useless, at least these people show some kind of initiative

How good are we all when a custy slags our work , do we apologise listen and learn or drop them like a ton of bricks

Man management is hard it takes a certain attitude patience and support. Just because you can tell when something needs changed not everybody knows. Have you shown how, explained the importance and showed him the benefits of looking after his equipment or have you just called him stupid lazy etc

Would you like your employee to come on here and tell us what you can and can't do???

Guys you are taught not to blame your tools well your employees are only as good as you make them too

These employees are the face of your business, invest your time in them and reap the benefits
or another way to look at it is if he or she is useless ask yourself this

Agree with what ytou Sya Gordon, but when you are not with them, this is when if a problem will happen it happens, because the boss aint there they think they can speed up skimp on work ect, they seem to forget we get told about this, either by way of canceling or a customer calling to say theres a problem, you can teach most people anything, if they do what you say all the time the challenge would be one, sadly many seem not to.

Gordon i agree 100% and in hindsight i wouldnt have posted this, i did try to delete but i cant. I was really annoyed on Friday night when i posted this. i had a long chat with the lad today and he has taking the points on board i hope. In fact he even picked up a new customer today with a bit of friendly banter with a neighbour of an existing customer.
