I do do rip offs and I never worry about finding work, nor do I struggle to pay the bills.

To many guys take up window cleaning and lose the morals. Window cleaning is becoming the new con man industry imo.

What you on about. Most people start a wc business to earn money, make a profit, build a business,to earn more than just to pay the bills. You maybe one of the few who just like to plod along....because morally you feel obliged to do so,but there are others out there who get out of their business what they can.How can you con someone at wc....surely you price a job and then they either accept or decline.Imo what you are really struggling with is the fact that you dont price as others do and because of that morality creeps in...lol.....go find another job mate where you all earn the same.

Trust me son I don't 'just plod on' I do very well thank you. I

There are a couple of UPVC cleaning company's like your round my way. I love them.

because when they hand in there silly prices and get knocked back for jobs I can knock out in an hour I get a lovely tip on top of double my hourly rate for not trying to rip them off.   :-*

I only charge double my normal hourly rate because I have no visions of grander.

Mr D....you have no idea what we charge for cleaning,as i said i have seen it many times people getting on their high horses because of what another company charges.Imo you probably cannot get prices that others charge because of your fixation with the moral rights and wrongs of the lowly window cleaner...get real mate we are in business to make a profit, you are more than welcome to slip in and take the jobs that wont pay a proper price for a proper job...there's plenty of cleaners like you around, but there are also plenty around who run a business. :P

some of you are like a bunch of kids!! ;D ;D ;D

your price is your price and thats it!!you price up work (whether its regular window cleaning/fascia/soffit/conny roof etc)as you see fit.there is no right or wrong price IMO!

im happy with my prices generally although i do get a few refusals at charging £60 for conny roofs.i just say fair enough and move on!i wont do them any less than the price i first quote!

if you can get £100- £150 for cleaning a conservatory then fair play to ya.i for one would not charge that unless it was big one! ;) ;D ;D

dont forget the regional differences in cost of living.if i lived down south then i would obviously charge a lot more as we all know southerners charge too much!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

best wishes to you all

It's in the interests of a sole trader or business to obtain the best rate possible for the services they provide. Customers are free to be able to obtain as many quotes and references as they wish for the work they want carried out and can then decide who they choose.
For a sole trader or business to become and remain succesfull they must provide value for money, and this does not always mean providing the cheapest quote.
A lot of customers prefer to pay a little extra for a quality service, reliability and high quality of workmanship.

i would say around £40 for the roof - depends how bad it is and time would take to clean it.

i would say around £30 to empty the gutter and then wipe it over.

i would say around £20 for the frames as they should be ok as you clean the glass anyway on regular cleans.

so £90 to £100 is about right for me.

if it was the ground floor glass internals then  id add another £20 - taking it to around £110

we do alot of con valets - at least 2 - 3 a week.

maybe if its a good regular customer and you have work near by then maybe give them an all in price of £95.

I think part of the problem is that the domestic market in Window Cleaning has become much more professional over the last 10 years, partly due to the influx of WFP and decent people with good business acumen seeing that there is a good opportunity to build a profitable business, but some customers still think it is 1985 and cannot understand that this is a labour intensive industry and do not want to pay the going rate.

Tell the customer if they are only willing to pay peanuts then go find a monkey to do the job. If they want to pay a professional rate then they will get a professional job.

Its not ripping someone off - after all the more you charge the more time you can allow for the job and hence the customers gets a proper job.

was the day and a half because you didnt know what you was doing at the time ? I dont mean that to sound horibble even though it does, just asking as that would at a push take 6 hours to clean if it was hanging, but a day and a half seems very excessive

I'm beginning to agree.
I like to think I charge a fair price.
It's not all about charging as much as you can. You do have to have some morals. For instance, I clean plenty of old peoples houses for say a tenner which I'm more than happy with for how long they take, but I know if I pushed the price up say a fiver some would still have me. That's because some I've had so many years that they trust me and probably wouldn't go anywhere else no matter what. This would be taking advantage of them though in my book.
My price is my price. It's a fair price and I do well out of it. Some people seem very chuffed with themselves for the price they get a job for which to me says they know they overpriced and the customer was so desperate they agreed. Some prices on this forum seem crazy to me. Its not always business, sometimes it's just plain taking advantage or ripping people off imo.

Yes I agree with most that £60 seems about right. Though if you can get more and get it on a regular basis then even better.

If you think £100 is expensive, then give blueskycleaning a call. I quoted a job recently for £85 but this company got it at £300 cos they waffled on to the customer about how good they were blah blah blah.

Do I think they ripped off the customer ?? No because its what some are prepared to pay ???

Bob

ps I clean the window for this person and look forward to checking out the conny  ;)
Why oh Why did he spell my name as bod & not bob on my wedding invites.

This kind of thread always brings differences of opinion, and at the end of the day, if the customer is quoted a price, whether its £50 or £500, and they accept it, they are not being ripped off!!

About 40% of my business is conservatories, and believe me i am no way cheap!!!

I must be doing something right tho, cos i get the repeat work every year.

with windows and anything else i do, i am expensive.....but.....i get recommendations all the time.
I also loose customers to cheaper w/c..but when someone even cheaper comes along, they will change again...so no great loss to me!!

I invest a lot of the money back into my business. i am starting a 4th service now, and am seriously thinking of re branding to M J Enviromental Services, because its not  just w/c or connies i now do.

I have expanded due to charging a higher price and in my mind giving value for money.

Anyways, if any of the doubters want to pull my reply apart feel free.

Ive got where i am by not being a busy fool!!!!  ;)
