ive been cleaning top frames ready for the changeover on my run of the mill compact accounts the last few days and ive noticed that its more than the odd one or two!

i would say nearly half of my custys on one estate has some form of oxidized frames on some windows.most of them look good(upvc frames)but fail the wet finger test.the odd one or two have leaky black seals.

how do you guys tackle these with wfp?is it best if i try and avoid the frames as much as possible?ive no problem with tradding the downstairs but i dont really want to get the ladders off for these accounts.

any advice guys?

Get ready to lose quite a few customers if you try to do these WFP.

I don't care what anyones says but WFP WON'T do a decent job on any windows with oxidiese frames.

We dpn't take them on any more because they are so much hassle.

well if thats the case i dont know whether its worth bothering messing about with wfp then.i would say nearly every other house has some form of it(inclu newish frames)not to mention leaky leaded,flakey painted windows.

so wfp is not really worth using unless windows are in mint condition?so new housing estates?(i dont do any!! : :)is all that its good for domestic wise?


so wfp is not the holy grail then!

so what are you guys gonna do when some of the windows you presently clean oxidize over time due to sun exposure?go back to trad?

You cannot fix an oxidised rubber with a WFP. They are stuffed and need replacement.

  and how do you replace the seal, you will need to hire scaffold because you cant work of a ladder

When I changed over about 5 years ago I asked about this  : and still there is no answer to the problem 
You would of thought that Us window cleaners would put our heads together and find a way to sort this out

Anyway this is what I do ... If you have oxidized frames at least you know before you start and you can do them TRAD leaky seals are the worst as you do not know until you clean them on the second clean,, Again just check to see if the window takes to it and if not you will have to get the ladder out for the odd one or two

ive not come across any oxidised frames today(on the same estate!)so at least i know i can wfp all these!


must of just been a bad cluster of them yesterday!its a pain though that we cant just wfp em as i was hoping to leave the ladders on the van when i switch over! : :

not true ,   when i converted i had quite a few upvc ( not white coated ali windows)

that turned the water a milky colour the first one or 2 cleans , don't give me problems

now, even the white coated windows can be cleaned , if you know wat you are doing,

 done 1 today , came up good.

do you have a slightly different technique when cleaning?most of the frames are upvc with  mild oxidisation.the ali ones ill trad as i think theyll be a nightmare to clean wfp! : :

hi dazmond
white upvc windows with mild oxidation wont cause you any probems , a good scrub with plenty of rinsing , then go back and re do glass.

white coated ali windows are a bit more tricky, first clean- clean frames and rinse well,
the water will run very milky , quickly go over window, then rinse frame and 1" of glass ,all round .
go back after the frames have stopped dripping ,in this weather they will dry quickly,
and redo glass , be carefull not to touch frame , from then on only do glass.
