Hi as a newby I am after advice again regarding window vents. As I look  at different houses I have noticed that there are quite a few different types of vents. Last week I did a first clean on a house with wooden windows and the vents were set back behind the pain and frame  after cleaning 4 windows I noticed that I was getting water inside so I kept away from the rest and only charged half price. Since then I am a little nervious when I see vents. Just priced up a job today (still waiting to hear if I have got it or not) with open vents of the frames (no cover above it)  and not sure what do do If I get the job. Read what threads I could find on here and some people are saying clean them out others say leave well alone. Question , Can all vents be closed from inside  if so is it best to get them closed and clean thoroughly on first cleans.

To me the rule about vents and wfp is just about the number one rule you need to follow in this business.

Keep water away from vents!

End of.

If you spray water into a vent you'll end up wioth a dirty window 30 minutes later. The water will run out and bring allsorts of crud with it.

When I clean vents I turn my water off and clean over them then rinse them off from ABOVE the vent and not so water can go into the vent.

vents are cows to clean, we clean vents and you have to wait for the drips to stop, micro cloths are good for this problem, open vent holes will not get cleaned because of the no win no fee culture

As long as you get them really clean on the first clean, then the regular cleans will be fine. We always clean the vents on every clean on domestic, but on on commercial cleans we only clean the vents on ground floor windows, depending on the frequency.

i tend to give em a good clean on the first go, rather do it now than in a few months.

after a first clean i always collect the money that afternoon which gives me a chance to inspect my own work and if it has left dirty drips i simply detail the glass so that the customer is happy.

I always explain that first cleans are a real de- gunging and vents and frames can leave unpredictable results, most custies appreciate what your saying.

and if not.... If you had a tshirt that you wore every day for 3 years without washing and when you put it in the machine it didnt come clean the first time would you think the machine was broken?

or would you just clean it in again?
