Hi all

I'm a new member and would like to ask for some help. Can anyone advise please?

My reverse osmosis unit flush/gate valve keeps blowing. Installed a week ago, flushed for the first time tonight for about 20 minutes but when I started to purify again the gate valve kept on blowing with water leaking through it, almost as if there's too much pressure somewhere. Any tips or ideas about what's happening would be welcome.

what make of ro unit is it ?
this may be a stupid question but your not closing the flush valve completely when you make pure water are you ?

Its a pure freedom static in my garage, it's wrist tight when I close it.

my system is a 4040 membrane diy'd by myself but guess the flush valve on a pure freedom would be the same principle. my valve is a john guest type, when fully open its inline with the hose, fully closed its 90 degrees to that. when I produce pure water the valve is set at 45 degrees, so 50% waste and 50% pure.
An ro unit should never be run with the flush valve comletely closed, it must produce waste water !

You got that wrong mate.
The idea of the flush valve being closed is to force water through the restrictor, if you left the waste partially open you wouldnt get the correct pressure going through the membranes and pure product water would be slow.
This is for the ro type the poster asked about, no idea if the 4040 works differently

sorry my mistake, maybe a 4040 setup is different then as i dont have a restrictor, if i were to close the tap on mine i'd knacker the membrane

If its a john guest type fitting mak sure you pipes are pushed in fully as they do go in quite deep before they grip.I have had this myself.I also had a pole fitting do the same as the pipe was a little small so I put some thread tape around the pipe to stop the leaks. Good luck.

Also check that the pipes going into the john Guest fitting are ci=ut square and not at a angle this orevents a proper grip in the pipe.

if gate valve is leaking ask for a replacement (if it is the gate valve leaking within itsself)

if not cut the hose off where it connects into pipe, add some pipe inserts and tighten back on, this can solve the problem.

I think pure freedom use a wheeled gate valve now dont they that is pre drilled?
