Help wanted , my resin has just run out and i dont know how much to put in , i have the FH1 and my bag says 25L , how many fills does that do ?
And what weight is a fill ?

Hi Rich

I do not no of fh1, but you fill your d/i colum as full as you can.

They are not a standard size, they range from 1ltr up.

So fill it as full as you can.

yes just ram as much as you can in the cyclinder or tank

I read that you should fill to the top but not compact it so that the water can work trough the resin better. (peters site I think)

Thanks guys , it says park international 618 on the di .
You said fill it up but do not compact it , well i have another Q , the tube that sits inside the di , do you put that in before the resin so that it stays empty ?

I was given very different advice and this has been on a recent thread -
I was told by Mark at Wintecs that there needs to be a 6 inch space at the top of my 35 inch column to allow the water to flow properly -
he also said if it is packed in then the water just makes channels as it is forced through and therefore does not 'use' all the resin properly-
personally I do think that this makes sense - if it is crammed, how does it wash over the resin -
I don't have an "I'm right you're wrong" view on this, but it would be nice to get a definitive answer;)

If you have a DI tank similar to the horizontal ones that Ionics and Omnipole supply for use in van mount systems, then I believe that these tanks have to be well packed with resin, else the resin will settle and some water will simply flow over the top of the resin, rather than flow through it.

The vertical tanks, at least in the small RO like the one that Peter supplies, has the water flowing UP THROUGH the resin.
In this scenario I can well understand that if you pack the resin in too tightly then the water will have to force its way through the resin, possibly forming channels and therebye not using all of the resin properly.

So, there you go! Pack it in firmly (but not too firmly) in some systems, and leave a gap in others

If you are still unsure then ring your supplier!
