Just interested as im a window cleaner by trade.

I was asked yesturday when quoting a restaurant for the windows if i could clean the carpets too.....

What would be a good price per square ft / square metre

Synthetic, the area is roughly 2000 square feet

If the latter, then I suggest you get them to go and survey the job or else you could get seriously caught out if you don't know what you're looking for.

And don't take any notice of the "they've cleaned it themselves before" line - at the very least it could well be full of residual detergent.

Not sure yet. Was thinking of trying to find an out of work carpet cleaner and doing it ourselves..

Make sure the out of work carpet cleaner isnt out of work because he's rubbish at cleaning carpets, and that he's insured as replacing the carpet could cost ££££££s

To be honest you would be better to attend a training course as it may well be a belgium wilton which are prone to shrinking, If its bad which it will be you need an agitation machine etc What HWE do you currently have ?

My advice would be to sub any work out while you do the training and add on 10 % for yourself

If you thinking of going onto carpet cleaning yourself this is probably not the job to start on.
You cant just ask quick fire questions then expect to be up and running.
At the best the job will be just about ok, at the worse you could be owning a carpet.

You have 3 experianced carpet cleaners not many miles away from you.
I am in Warrington, DaveP is in south Liverpool and Derek is in Northwich, and there are others not much further.

Do yourself and your window cleaning client a favour and dont cut corners to earn a quick quid.
At least one of those three carpet cleaners I mentioned will give you a "quick quid" for the job

if you don't clean carpets for a living leave it alone until you have done some training, why take the risk? mess it up and you own the carpet and you have lost a customer for the windows and possibly get yourself a bad name in the area,

but I am amazed how many window cleaners get asked if they clean carpets   Why would a custy ask a window cleaner if they clean carpets ? unless they advertise the fact .

My answer to your question though, from £1 sq mtre  up to £5 sq metre  depending .

I was thinking of employing an experienced cleaner and supplying him the equipment and take it from there. I havent got a clue about carpets and i havent got the time to learn....

Well you have the pricing now. A professional equipment set up will cost you between £30000-£60000. You just need someone trained and experienced to operate it now, easy really

Dave is a truck mount man though and through.
I get his point though.
Even if he said £3000 to £60k
An out of work carpet cleaner will not be out of work if he has professional gear.
A carpet cleaner may be out of work if he has an apology for a carpet cleaning machine ie vax, bissell, RugDoctor etc and not lived up to customers expectations - word gets around (too slow sometimes).

The only time I expect to be out of work is when I retire and then all my gear will be on the market and sold.
