bicarb and a non scratch scourer will work really easily.  Use a scourer instead of a washing up brush and it will keep it at bay.

Or use a dishwasher then it never builds up  ;D

Cheers

you can buy de tanning powder from most chemical companies it comes in 15kg buckets , but recently we used Seldon Research product called  Spray & Wipe with bleach it comes in a 750ml spray bottle, just spray into tea cup leave for a few minutes then wipe inside with a mild scourer then wash out, looks like new . not sure where you are from but there is Seldon distributors all over the UK, if yo cannot find anyone go to their website and they will give you the nearest dealer

bleach will whiten up a cup, but over time it will just make the problem worse. I believe it eats away the enamel, making the cup more and more porous.

the product spray and wipe with bleach has very little bleach in comparrison to the othe ingredients, we have used this for many years and have had no problems with cleaning of cups

They are just an abrasive spongemade of Melamine the same stuff kitchen worktops are made of. Ordinary soap powder will descale tea cups.
