Starting out door knocking for work
« on: May 14, 2010, 10:12:38 am »

Am hoping to start wfp soon and was wondering about door knocking for work, basically drive into an estate knock on the first as "would you like a regular window cleaning service" if yes clean then move onto the next house, if no move on next house anyway...does this method sound alright/professional enough, or should i leaflet a few estates first then do the same procedure as above.

Any help here would be great

i knock and ask if i can give them a leaflet, i never ask if they need a window cleaner.

its a soft, non pressure approach that works really well. custies will tell you if they need a window cleaner or at least they will take a leaflet and think about it.

knock knock,

hi there sorry to disturb you,

i am expanding my window cleaning route in the area (hold up the flyer).

and i was wondering if i could give you a flyer to advertise myself.

i rarely get angry customers and always come away with a minimum of 3 custies a day after 2 hours of canvassing

it also is not soul destroying cus you dont get any no's as you are not asking them anything

Every one has there own way of doing things, but I'll tell you how I done it when I started.

I would choose an area that I wanted to work in, I would then go out late afternoon(more people at home) and start knocking. I would say (and still do) "Hi I'm trying to expand my window cleaning business in this area and I was wondering if you'd be interested in my service".
If they said yes or maybe, I would give them a quote and the frequency between cleans 4 or 8 weeks for me) once I had there details I would give them a flyer so they had my number and then I'd say when I'd be back to clean them. Also don't forget to tell them about how they pay you, if you have an evening you go out collecting or if you leave an addressed envelope ect.

I have experimented recently with leafleting an area then going back door knocking a few days later, but the results were no better in my opinion and you've walked the streets twice.

Also I wouldn't make an issue out of how you clean the windows unless the customer asks, they don't realy care as long as there windows are clean. I've recently started using wfp and I've found most customers don't care, I've just had a few asking is this down to health and safety, then I just expain the benefits to them and to me.

Good luck

i think it is a mistake not to tell them about the method used -wfp.

only time i ever got problems was when i did not.

i give them a welcome letter outlining service/ freq. of clean how to pay ,
and then a q and a section on wfp.
