how to avoid Black Death!
« on: May 13, 2010, 12:21:58 pm »
Following on from the problem i had with jet black residue comimg out the wand, i am looking into ways of avoiding this happening again, a possible cause is degredation of the hose lining from chemicals, and  from my communication with John Bolton who described this phenomenon as "Black Death" he also said it may be from the heat exchanger and i should use some acid rinse, i dont think this is the cause as i often descale, so i have ordered some new hose from Restoremate at a very good price £50 cheaper than Ashbys ??? to eliminate this possible cause.
what i wanted to ask is.

What is wrong with using a prepray like powerburst or any other high alkaline prepray synthetic or Nemisis/M power and water rinse on wool rather than filling the tank with these chemicals.
surely the prespray does the chemical part of the clean and warm water under pressure blasts it off, or am i missing something.

I dont think you're missing anything at all Jim - sounds normal to me (obviously with acid rinse in case of powerburst).

I prespray the cleaning fluid
I rinse with plain water, except when acid rinse is required, but that could be hand sprayed, then water rinse.

Whereabouts on the Restormate page is the hose.
Looked all over.
How much per 8m length?

John
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

switch to thermoplastic hose, no more black death.

thermoplastic is rated at 3000psi and is thinner than normal hose, the only down side is it tends to kink a little bit when it is new
