window issue with closing (any ex window fitters ???)
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:37:20 pm »
Does anyone know if this can be fixed:

I opened up a window in my house earlier, and the metal track at the side bend resulting in me not being able to close the window, after waking next door up hammering it to close it is not tied closed so kids cant fall out.

My question is this a simple replacement, or will I have to have a whole new window unit fitted ?

Ian

the unit is about 14ft wide so I pray it can be fixed :'(

Some questions. Does the window hinge from the side or top. Assuming the opener is about 2 foot wide and is side hung  then you only need new hinges. The common problem is that the hinge has a sliding nylon section with a grub screw to adjust the friction. Without lubrication then the nylon part will become dry and split at the weak point on the grub screw. You will need to measure the length of the hinge , probably about 12 or 14 inches and the stack height. This is how high top to bottom about 8 /10mm. Make sure the V point in the corner is engaged and you should be able to close it for now. You defo won't need a new window.
Any questions then ask.
Oh and by the way yes I do get out, I have just fallen through the door and woke the family up. ;D
ps call me after 9 in the morning on 07973 165677 if you need help.

I've had side hinges replaced on my UPVC windows so yes I would imagine the runners can be replaced as well.
