Expense help

I have just started using Wcp properly and I find it very good.

My book keeping has been absolutely dire over the last couple of years so I have to do something about it and this was the best option I feel.

My question is, due to using a older van the 40p per mile works best for me.

How would I enter expenses into Wcp.

As fuel cost is not 40p etc, and the van is split for business and personal.  Does any one have any advice or help they could offer?

My advice would be to get an accountant as they will save you much more than they cost.
I have had one since day 1 20 years ago.

Other than that keep a book and make a note of the mileage you use for each day work/personal. Keeping good records is the key.

you can claim 40 p per mile for the first 10 000 miles then its 25p a mile after that. Thats how i claim it works out good for me.

Sorry or being thick here....so you can claim £4000 of your tax bill up to 10,000 as vehicle expenses?

I am not an accountant but the £4000 you can claim as a business  expense. So you will not have to pay tax on that £4000.

He's asking how to set up expense catergories in wcp, and how 40p per mile would be entered as opposed to £80 diesel receipts.

He didn't mention accountants, and i doubt that many accountants would have that good a knowledge of wcp anyway.

cant you just at the end of each week add up your mileage and xby 40p then enter this instead of say £80 fuel reciept

If I just entered the 30 miles I done in one day into wcp as £12, I wouldn't need to show fuel or vehicle reciepts as the rest would be personal spendeture. So surely as long as I keep a milage record, fuel and van reciepts would not need to be kept for the business? That's right isn't it?

yes all you need to keep is a mileage log. there is no need for keeping fuel reciepts

if u claim milage im led to belive thats all you can claim for


i claim for the fuel recipts/tax/insurance/servicing/repairs etc well it is fiat

I would just tell them you use the van 100% for work whether you do or not. It's a lot less complicated.

problem is, I drive alot for personal, 65 % personal, and dont see how with my income and the way my round is compact I could pass it off come a audit compaired to my income. especially atm with not a massive income......

I have just moved 20 miles, so 50 miles alot of days that isnt even for work, just to meet up with people.
