cleaning this patio on tuesday. obviously i'm gonna blast out the gaps so because of the size of the gaps, what would be the best way to fill them in, i was thinking of a dry sand and cement mix, brushed in. geo fix would cost a fortune so thats out. any ideas guys?

have you thought of semi dry sand and cement mix, it will take a little longer but it will be fairly easy to brush in such large gaps and it wont take long to go off.

I hate the word 'blast'   I wouldn't use a sand cement brush in mix as it is best way to mark the slabs, i would sub it out to a builder or handyman who knows what they are doing

Or quote for using geo fix and justify the cost by how quickly it can be done

i used kiln sand and it made a mess.used a pointing tool in the end.

can you elaborate, you mean mix KDS with cement, or just brush in KDS, will it set if its the latter, etc...etc.... cheers

i dont re-point joints. i just tell the custy to get a landscaper to do it. too much hassle doing it. i would not use kds for those joints as moss will grow in it. they need cementing up properly.

If they want anything done I will only brush pure kiln dried sand in. I'm pants at pointing and it takes ages so its KDS or nothing and they can get it done if they want but it won't be me - better to swerve jobs like that and get on with the next on the list

I never point joints too much trouble and you have to be quite good at it to make a good job and not messs the slabs up.If the customer will not get someone else to do it i would leave it alone.

I have a job tommorrow that needs repointing and i will be using Geo-Fix as the little old lady wanted me to do it

I did a few last year with Magic Sand mix from  advanced sealing solutions.It is great for joints wider than 10mm and dries in about 10 mins so don`t mix too much at once.You just pour a tin of it into a bag of kiln dried,mix with your gloved hand and brush in.It`s about £5 a tin.Dan

Good pair of photos - get a few more and put them into a folder which you give to the customer while you measure the job. The folder will also contain thank you letters, PL ins and a generic RA & MS. I always measure and do the working out on the calculator before giving the price - even if their shocked and say no they will know what it could look like
