anyone got any good tips/advice on door knocking,as this is my next step in drumming up some work, but hate the idea off it.

Hi, I've just started looking at making window cleaning my full time job and also wasn't keen on door knocking.
I lost count of how many flyers i put out and not getting a good response.
I took the advice off people on this site and went out canvassing.
I was surprised the response i had. Even some of the houses i put a flyer through.
I still have a long way to go but find you get a better response knocking on doors.
If you don't get an answer just put a flyer through the letter box.
You will find if they already have a w/c then they will tell you, some will even ask for your number incase they change their minds or even ask you to give them a quote to see if they can save a few quid.
I've not come across one house yet that have been funny about you knocking. I have found that they are quite happy that you have called even if they already have a w/c.
If they do ask for a quote and already have a w/c tell them that you don't want to know what they are paying at the moment as you are not there to undercut on purpose and take work from others.
I found the other day i quoted more than the w/c they already had and they still wanted to change to me. I also got a couple which i found out after i was cheaper, but told them at the start i didn't want to know what they were already paying.
Once you have knocked on a few doors you will start to enjoy it, I have.
Try it you won't be disappointed.

We have just started up and found that door knocking is the best way. We went canvassing over 3 afternoons and got 17 jobs on the spot 3 jobs from phone calls and 1 job from recommendation. It can be disheartening 1 afternoon we spent nearly 5 hours walking and got only 2 jobs, yet the next 2 days were totally different we got quite a few. The key is not giving up. I was a bit apprehensive about knocking but once you get into the flow especially when you get a result, you think hey! this isn't so bad, even better when the sun's shining. Haven't had anybody object yet. Getting your patter right and being polite also goes a long way.

Make yourself a portfolio, plenty of pics of jobs you have done, preferably some before and after pics.
Be nice and friendly and remember to able to answer any questions they may ask, without hesitation.
I always offer them freebies like I do your step for free or I'll clean your gate posts for you.
I always like my customers to feel that they have had real value for money.

I just say "I am sorry to disturb you but i am working in your area shortly and wondered if you would like a regular and reliable window cleaner".
I also try and get across before they answer " The price i can quote you will also include cleaning the frames and doors".
This i have found works for me.
If they have a w/c and want a quote don't ask what they are paying and don't undercut on purpose.
I have found some people don't let on they already have a w/c and see if they can save a few quid. In saying that though i have found out on a few occasions that i have quoted more than they already pay but because i clean the frames and doors they are happy to pay that bit more.
