palm pda & windows 7
« on: May 08, 2010, 12:08:33 pm »
just got a new computer which runs windows 7, after my old computer completely died , and have found out that its not compatable with my palm pda which i use with george.
has anyone else had this problem and if so did you manage to get around it ????
ive spoken to paul at george and he says there is a cheat, but i looked at the link he sent me and it looks far to complicated for me.
so it may have to be window cleaner pro and a new pda !!!!

George is a great piece of software but it appears to be getting left behind.
It is designed for Palm yet pocket George wont run on the new Palm operating software, now even the main George software won’t run on windows 7 it seems.
Has Paul lost interest?

I have a Palm Zire 71 working with Windows 7 & George, what problems are you having? if its sync problems you will need to sync via infared cos the hotsync is not supported with Windows 7, I did also speak to Paul he said he didnt think it was worth updating George to work with Windows 7 cos so many people had problems with vista it would probably go the same way which I thought was a bit negative thats 1 of the reasons that I now run Wcp along side George , Im just waiting for Wcp to come up with a debt list on the lite version before I stop using George all together

Hi
Windows7 can be bought as either 32 bit or 64 bit. If you had the computer loaded with 32 bit then I understand the update system would work with George as it does with XP 32 bit. It doesn't work with 64 bit.
Although 64 bit is the way forward, I would try to have the supplier reload it as 32 bit. After all, work is more important than play.

I have a brand new computer as well and I chose to load it with my old XP programme rather than going to Windows 7 because of George. I like the new Windows 7 as the wife has it on her laptop - but XP is fine for now for me. That's my honest opinion at the moment.

mine is the 64 bit, and the palm zire z22 and  the z31, which i have, will not be recognised by the computer, saying that the drivers and devices are not recognised.
ive just looked again at the link that paul from george sent me and followed the sequence of instructions, and it says the cheat will only work if im running the premium windows 7 edition, which im not, its the home edition.
going to down load the wcp trial and see how i get on with that.

I have windows 7 64 bit and have to sync pocket george via bluetooth as usb sync is not supported.
You'll have to do it this way if your palm has bluetooth, if not get a cheap one off ebay. Infrared will work as well I think. You'll need the appropriate dongle as well.

Mine never syncs first time with bluetooth though, sometimes I have to try multiple times or restart the hotsync manager.

The debt list is on the desktop application but not on the pda/phone (Wcplite version)

perhaps if we shout about it loud enough Ian will get round to sorting this out cos its been well over 18 months now and still not here!!   .....  Ian ?

thanks traps,
i've had a look on ebay and the dongles are only a few quid and a second hand palm bluetooth pda aint that dear either, think that this is the way forward for me at the mo, untill wcp sorts out the wcp lite debt facility.
