Hi Guys,

Am that busy i need to take someone on!!!

So what have you other guys done?

So do i take someone one on in my van with 2 machines? Or do i get another van and go for it?

I'm in the same boat but I'm scared that if I take someone on and it goes quiet you've then got that stone round your neck. I just get a self employed mate to help on the big jobs. I was spoilt as I had a lad with me for a year before he went in the Army and he was spot on but finding his wage was a drain. Going from one man to two has to be the biggest step and thats why you need to think like a big company from day one

the expansion question is always very difficult to sort !!

the question to ask are ??

am i working all the time on site, and therefore missing other potential work ?

is there enough additional work if you spent say 50% of the week, off the tools, to give another van work for a week?

at the moment you enjoy an economy of scale, ie 1 man, 1 van, overheads etc, add 2 man, and 2nd van, the overheads remain the same, apart from the man and van cost, therefore at day one of the expansion plan, you have a dip on th p and l graph, until you are both working at say 75% again.

its always easier to expand  from 2 to 3 vans, and 3 to vans etc, its the first 1 van to 2 van which seems to deliver the most pain.

at the end of the day its only you who can make the decision as to which way you want your business to go and where you want it to be in say 2 years and 5 years time.

Would you not be better off finding someone local and reliable that you could sub work out too it would be a lot less hassle in the short term.  and see how it goes.
Then if things really take off you can think again about taking someone on.

im was told if you take someone on on a part time contract you dont have to pay the national insurance etc. it will be best this way but you could give them overtime on the side in cash.

construction project management---civils
i used to run a specialist concrete placing and  hard finishes refurbishment company
big stuff  mainly industrial in the old eastern europe factories plants warehouses etc
got busted-a honest mistake putting the decimal point in the wrong place on the tax returns for a few years
then started again in a small way grit  blasting -powerwashing mainly facades
pain in the butt getting paid in this financially unstable climate plenty of work out there but no one wants to pay on time
still carry on the pm side but looking at setting up locally domestics for now using a couple of lads i know

up in yapton building a new depot for far plants

If you got that much work get one of these machines. Its for multiple operators. 41lpm.                                     
2 of you can clean hundreds of sq meters every day

i used to used nixon units
needed the power -they were designed for drain jetting
fantastic bit of kit

My spare jetter is a Nixon - they went bust and got bought out. That machine sounds good if the video is anything to go by but would anything over 20 ltr/min be a pain when used for prolonged periods on a domestic water supply ?
